I once felt that way too. However, bowl practice last bowl didn’t help this team be better this year. And I imagine the bowl - if we qualify for one- will be an early bowl in mid to mid/late December- not allowing us to even get the max bowl practices.
    (Just like last year).

my main reason for not caring about a bowl…is that Billy has shown to be super methodical with decision making and evaluating (including but not limited to the portal, hiring coaches, etc). I now fear that a bowl game will likely push out either the firing of any coaches or voluntary leaves by coaches. On top of that, Billy may not try to interview or hire coaches until after the bowl…which means it will take even longer to hire,
Likely post early signing day (which could impact recruits). There will be a lot of good coaches looking for jobs once the regular season ends and anything that holds up Napier from getting into his process and evaluation of team needs /decencies / etc and pushes those dates out and slows him down - we risk missing out on potential good hires who are gobbled up by other teams - just like we lost players in the portal waiting on film to review.

The only real plus I see missing out on is the ability for Lagway to get some practices in bowl prep. That would be helpful.

but I think they really need to mail any new hires more than they need bowl practices

Yeah, with the new alignment, the SEC went from by far the best conference in college football to turbo level. I think it’s going to be hard for anybody to dominate now, although if anybody is poised to do that, it could be Georgia for a while.

After reconsideration, I like your analysis. We really need to load up from the portal and the earlier we can get to do that the better. Nice post.

We were giving up yardage to cupcakes and then we hit the better teams. Regression or reality.

LSU averaged 11.2 yards per play. Yikes!

Sure does. Dude is straight nasty. Play to stop him running and catching passes out of backfield or we get beat bad.

Personally, regression. A team can do the basics right regardless of opponent. I can't make sense of it.

It's a terrible matchup for us ATM. I fully expect he will have a day to remember.

IMHO-and I'll offer my disclaimer first (I know nothing-but always have an opinion!)o_O

    • We have a better than average QB that is accurate.
    • We have some TE's and receivers that are great
    • We have a few decent O-linemen
    • We have a few decent D-linemen
    • We have some our best guys out with injuries.
    • We desperately need speed on defense
    • We need guys that can tackle (I mean football is: Passing, catching, kicking, tackling, running, blocking.)
    • We desperately need creativity and quality execution around third down offense.
Now while this list is obvious, we do have some great studs coming in next year. But it wouldn't hurt my feelings if Napier dipped into the portal and snagged a couple of beasts for the line of scrimmage. Just saying.

The fact our young guys played this year is a huge plus. They will be that much better next year.

Lagway will be like a mix of Daniels and Tebow.

2025 is probably the "make or break year"

If we do not win by 2025 then a change will be made IMHO.

But he is going to get 4 years for taking over a complete mess.

Mullen would have gotten a fifth year if he had fired Grantham and company before the 4th year and gone in a new direction for DC.

Mullen would have won with a halfway decent DC.

Mullen stuck out his neck to keep Grantham and got it chopped off even though his first three years were great.

That is why Napier is going to get the benefit of the doubt. He has convinced Stricklin that he will build it the right way and the Bullgators are backing Stricklin at this point.

Superlatives courtesy of Gator Dave …

With just 61 offensive plays LSU averaged close to a point per play.

701 yards given up is the worst performance in school history going back to 1906.

LSU had 16 explosive plays. Had one third down in the second half. And scored five consecutive TD’s in the second half.

Simply put we are not as fast/quick, physical or athletic enough to compete with the elite teams.
However, maturity (our youth), superb recruiting in both HS and portal is essential to future success.

We didn't, also didn't have a bend don't break with Bates or Zook, we had a 4-4 that was geared to stop all the running teams, it struggled sometimes vs the pass, it was Pruett who replaced Zook that brought the 4-3, Stoops brought the heavy blitz stuff.
