Saw this in an article, and thought it was pretty humorous: Death, taxes, and Urban Meyer's name surfacing in a college football head coaching search.
I'd like to think it's the high water mark but schools and boosters desperate for wins will continue to throw $$$ around trying to catch lightning in a bottle, IMO.
So, you wanted to keep Mac? All I can go off here are rankings and at the time most here thought Mullen was improving recruiting. Either way, his record is comparable to Kiffen, which was my point.
As long as there is one school willing to pay up, every agent will use that to get the best contract for their client. If schools come together to suppress coach pay they will get sued for collusion.
I was replying to someone suggesting Norvell and the first thing I said was I don't think they would.
I am thinking a very good choice would be Jonathan Smith of Oregon State. He has been very successful at a school not known for much success. OSU is his alma mater but unfortunately the music for the super conferences stopped and OSU does not have a chair. They are currently projected to go to the American Athletic Conference next season. He currently makes 4.85 million so bump him to 6 to 7 million and you get a very young, proven, offensive minded head coach.
Prior to the start of his final season, McElwain had the #1 rated class "committed". The Recruiting season was a little different then so that could have been considered an "early" rating and it certainly wasn't #1 by the time he was fired (although still good). BTW, one of the biggest beneficiaries of that class falling apart was UGa.
It's the same way for Fortune 500 CEO pay. They get bazillions when the company does well. They get a bunch when the company is down. They get a load on firing. Why? They each have a contract saying they'll be paid in the top half of their peers. And they sit on the compensation committees of other companies. It's uniquely designed to create an upward spiral.
But they shit the bed the 1st chance they had to show they were legit bs bama. Then did it again the 2nd chance they had vs UGA. Not sure if I'm A&M I would want a coach who has shown he can't beat the better teams.in the same conference, and I think he has himself a pretty good ole.miss team.
How long do yall think it will be before Cristobal is in the unemployment line with him? Seems like you can't go spending 30million + on a recruiting class and not sniff success amd stick around but so.long before they get rid of you. It was 1st A&M then came miami..... tic toc tic toc
I said the same thing after Arky fired their trash offensive coordinator Dan Enos after paying him millions. I’d much rather pay that money to a big time, program-changing QB.
He has like barely a quarter of Jimbo’s resume, and still has a job. But maybe we’re looking at it differently. The ultimate goal is to live off the buyout and not have a job
