Israel is held to a higher standard than Hamas because they aren’t a bunch of deplorable terrorists. And as American citizens, it’s completely reasonable to hold Israel to a higher standard because we pay for their military with our tax dollars.

I don’t disagree… BUT… I think it’s fair to say that Israel has been held to higher standard. They didn’t rape, behead, kidnap. They haven’t built their military bunkers in and under hospitals and schools. They haven’t used innocent civilians as humans shields, used ambulances to transport terrorist. I hate that innocent people are dying but I don’t blame Israel .Hamas is the one using them as shields, and Israel has given notice, has given warning.. which from a military standpoint is stupid.. but they did that to mitigate the loss of innocent life.

Correct. Israel are not terrorists. They are capable of reason. That’s why people appeal to them. I’m just explaining why people don’t march and include slogans to appeal to terrorists. Because it’s pointless. It’s the same reason Americans didn’t march to appeal to ISIS. There is literally no point trying to reason with a bunch of animals. Israel is and absolutely should be held to a higher standard.

So why the marches and the protest? If Israel is and should be held to higher standard and they are doing that ( giving civilians warnings to clear out before the attacks ( I can’t think what more they can do) and we see Hamas hiding in kindergarten class rooms, using hospitals as a base of operations, handing under churches, what more is expect of Israel except to roll over and just get kicked in the nuts? What exactly do the protestors want? The ceasefire only helps strengthen Hamas.

I am not putting this here to suggest anything that happened in the West Bank justifies October 7, but just because I did not think that merited its own thread, and it again talked about the use of the term “from the river to the sea.”
When I first addressed that term, far back in the thread, I wanted to say that it is used by both sides to mean the same complete dominion over the other in the land, but I could not find a quick link to suggest it’s used by this really its use by Israelis. So I questioned my memory.

She also references facts on the ground to prevent a two state solution and the innately offensive aspect of supercessionist theology to Jews, which is abstractly valid, but gets underplayed here because it also implicates Christianity, although not as much in this century in terms of land.

the whole thing is worth reading.

How would you describe the settler movement?

I see the settler movement today as a direct continuation of the settler movement of a hundred and twenty, thirty, forty years ago. I see it as a chapter in the history of Zionism, and we are in one of those chapters of modern Zionism. Settlement is the way to return to Zion.

You said, "Settlement is the way to return to Zion”?

Yes. It’s the end of the dispersion and the beginning of the revival of the Jewish nation in this homeland.

What are the borders of that Jewish nation?

The borders of the homeland of the Jews are the Euphrates in the east and the Nile in the southwest. [This would include the territory of multiple Middle Eastern countries as well as the territory that Israel controls today.]

There’s a Palestinian slogan that has become very controversial: “From the river to the sea,” which means from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. It’s controversial because it would include all the land that currently makes up Israel. But you’re saying from the river to the—

    What is controversial?

Palestinians sometimes use the slogan “From the river to the sea.” But what you’re saying is that from the river to the Nile is the Jewish homeland, correct?

Of course. If someone decides to invent a new religion today, who will decide the rules? The first nation that got the word from God, the promise from God—the first nation is the one who has the right to it. The others that follow—Christianity and Islam, with their demands, with their perceptions—they’re imitating what existed already. So, why in Israel? They could be anywhere in the world. They came after us, in the double sense of the world.

Palestinian communities have been removed from their land, kicked off their land by—

No, you never read things like that. No. There are no pictures. [According to a report by Btselem, an Israeli human-rights group, parts of Kedumim, where Weiss lives, were built on private Palestinian land; in 2006, Peace Now found that privately owned Palestinian land comprised nearly forty per cent of the territory of West Bank settlements and outposts.]

In Israel, there’s a lot of support for settlements, and this is why there have been right-wing governments for so many years. The world, especially the United States, thinks there is an option for a Palestinian state, and, if we continue to build communities, then we block the option for a Palestinian state. We want to close the option for a Palestinian state, and the world wants to leave the option open. It’s a very simple thing to understand.

I would not be surprised if the end game here is millions of Gazans, many of whom voted for Hamas, end up being taken as refugees in the US.

Of course, if you don’t like that idea, then you’re a racist.

the marches are because they want them to stop bombing and killing civilians.

Probably easier to leave them there if there isn’t a humanitarian crisis that we paid to create.

I was referring to ALL LIVES, period, because the longer the War, the more people die-both sides.

The issue here is that from Israeli long-term safety , this War must be win outright, unconditionally. Gaza just then have a government ready to govern the people with the goal of bettering lives and conditions, not waging a campaign to obliterate Israel.

Im afraid Israel will exhaust their global good will before they are able to accomplish that.

You have logic, and your point is logical, but history tells us that the people chanting across the world, generally just hate Jews. That’s thousands of years talking.

This is undeniable. Israel rarely has the benefit of global good will.

So no real answer.. yet again. Do you remember all the oenstine marches and ralllies last year begging to be free of Hamas leadership? College kids walking out of class because Hamas was using innocent civilians as human shields, stealing their aide, and making them live in poverty. The travesty and human suffering that Hamas has levied on the Palestinians for decades. All those marches and protest for the benefit of the people.
    No?
That’s because it ONLY happens when it will limit Israel’s response to Hamas attacking, lobbing mistakes, murdering babies, raping women… then and only then do the Muslims around the world, the Palestinians in other regions lift their voice to cry about being oppressed and hurt.. not by Hamas who has done it for decades.. no only when it’s Israel retaliating.
Israel have plenty of advanced warning. Israel has done their part. This is nothing more than cover for Hamas.

Again, there is no reasoning with terrorists. There is no talking sense into any group of people who decapitate children. That’s why those marches didn’t happen. Appealing to Israel to stop bombing is the only effective way to stop Israel from bombing. Not sure why you can’t wrap your head around this. And again, this is not what I am advocating. I’m just explaining what is happening and why.

I think many of them do just hate Jews. I think some of them genuinely just want to stop seeing children get blown up.

The vast majority of the people dying in this war are civilians killed in Israeli bombings. There are only 30,000 Hamas soldiers. Total.

And they're using the 2 million resident civilians of Gaza including women, children and even infants as human shields. Take it for what it's worth, Netanyahu offered to provide fuel for the generators at al Shifa hospital and was prevented from doing so by Hamas. While I don't think very much of Benjamin Netanyahu it's been obvious for a long time that Hamas considers Palestinian civilians more valuable as dead martyrs than as living persons.
