This was the best service match I have ever seen at UF. It really was amazing. And, of course, Kennedy Martin or as the players call her KMart had an amazing match. She is so special. She is the top freshman in kills through 21 matches. We saw UF volleyball tonight. In the I am so special category, Anna came and handed me the ball she was going to throw.
I didn't get to watch much of the match, but the stats say only 6 service errors on 73 attempts. It looks like the coaches made some changes. Victoria served tonight, and led the team with 4 aces. AC didn't serve at all. Everybody served 89% or above except Ellie (75%). I hope this was the product of more focus on serving, and not just an anomoly. It was really good to see.
There has to have been some special emphasis on serving since we last saw the ladies. In the last 3 matches, we averaged over 12 SE's per. Having just 6 tonight made a huge difference, We would have had a great chance to win 2 out of 3 of those.
Yeah like I said earlier, it’s not just points we lose which are freebies, but with a good service game we can put the opponent in offensive situations which might just give them 2 options rather than 3-4. And that’s how you want to play the opposition. All Jmo but my teams won championships, albeit not at the collegiate level. No way do I believe it doesn’t work in the collegiate game. In fact my mentor in my first CAP was Cecile Raynaud of F$U.
Is there a volleyball equivalent of softball's "travel ball" where top high school players face elite competition and get excellent coaching? Or when there's a freshman volleyball player has she only experience high school and the occasional camp?
There’s Club VB at all levels. Upside; more reps, good competition, enhances chance to make a varsity squad. Downside; cost and time/travel commitment. Depending on skill and cost and placement, the types of regional/national tournaments are presented in the player package/club
UF off to a bad start at 10-15, 0-14 Alabama. Down 10-5 forces a Mary Wise timeout. 2 service errors and hitting .000 with 4 attack errors. Got to get their heads in the match, Gators!!
Gators pull off the 1st set vs. Bama 25-23, despite hitting only .094. Alabama has lost 62 straight matches to Florida and they virtually gave the first set away with 6 service errors. Sofia Victoria had no kills and 4 service errors, hitting -.500. The Gators overcame a 5 point mid-set deficit getting 8 straight points behind the serving of Trinity Adams. Now let's get the 2nd set.
Down 14-15 at the 2nd set break. Still hitting .096 to Bama's .111. Both teams playing poorly. Victoria hitting -.600. We already have 16 attack errors, Bama only 9. The good thing is we have 25 digs to their 13. Just need to play cleaner and make open kill shots.
Thanks for the correction. Sofia now has 1 kill and 6 hitting errors after 2 sets hitting -.417. She is either hot or cold and has been really cold so far tonight. Martin and Fitzpatrick have been great, and Adam's serving has been excellent. McKissisk continue to be the glue with all those digs and 2nd passes, along with steady serving.
UF wins 2nd set, pulling away late behind Martin. When SV is on, she's unstoppable. When she's off (like today, again), she's...uh...really off.
We played down to their level. Very entertaining, competitive match, but UF wins 3-0. Victoria had a great 3rd set while Kennedy Martin made several errors. AC Fitzpatrick was the hitting star of the night, with 17 kills, hitting an incredible .517. Kennedy Muff had 38 assists and McKissock, Canaan and Adams played very well in the backcourt. Win and move on@@
