I was replying to your initial post that stated “my wish for aTm: Billy Napier.” Seemed like you were saying you hoped Napier would leave UF for aTm.

And why would I compare Mullen to Jimbo? The topic was Lane. You honestly believe I was comparing him to Jimbo? Or are we just covering our ass here? Because it was pretty clear who we were talking about.

You're going to need to show some proof on that. I don't remember that. Just Googled and nothing comes up on that. Everyone whining about Mac's classes, yet we had the No. 1 class in the country prior to firing him? I think this is in your head. Maybe you need to rethink this weird hatred of Mullen.

I really did, but I can redirect and say Kiffin is a better recruiter than Mullen. No problem.

Let me Google that for you…

“I was super excited to be part of the staff, to be able to be home and go recruit Florida the way I felt Florida needed to be recruited,” Seider said. “I went and got Kyle Pitts for them. We almost had Justin Fields. It was an exciting time. At that time before (McElwain), got fired we had the No. 1 class in the country.

Were you referring to when Texas AM signed Jimbo or when they fired him?

You are correct on both accounts.
    • Way too many schools (including UF) have too much money in these contracts.
    • The first year or two is okay, even if there is a losing season.
    • If the team is still under performing in season 3, 4, 5, or more, the school is taken a big hit in not only paying the head coach salary, but the damage to their brand and other revenue producing areas.
These under performing situations really do make one ask about the schools were thinking.

One solution is for the school to tie the salary payments to performance goals. If the coach is not making the goals, his buy out is reduced.

I get why fans are upset over these contracts but it is just the way it is now. It is not going to change.

No school is going to get a top tier coach without guarantees, period. No school is going to get an up and coming coach without guarantees, period.

The only way I see a performance based contract working is if the payouts for winning is some ludicrous number(doubled salary) to offset the reduced buyout for losing. And that is only if you find a coach willing to take a chance on himself. And why would any coach do that when the trend for contracts is entirely in the coaches favor.

Please not Novell. If he leaves fsu then Deion would take his place. I don’t want Deion anywhere near Florida.

But he's not. By no single measure is he better. In fact, by every measure, Mullen was better. But keep beating that dead horse. Maybe someone will actually believe you.

Would Urban Meyer be interested in the job? Potential to three-peat which he will have very good chance of accomplishing with TAM’s resources. Mullen is available as OC too, a job he is good at.

Cool. A quote from a former "coach". Solid proof dude. Nothing subjective about that. LOL!

Simple fact is Lane Kiffen = Dan Mullen. They're the same damn guy. Like, almost down to the letter.

What about Harbaugh? He had to take a pay cut a few years ago and is now being harassed by the Big10. Although his new 5year contract is highest in the Big10, it’s lower than top SEC contracts. Weather is nicer in Texas too.

Are you comparing Mullen's recruiting at Florida to Kiffin at Ole Miss? If so, it's a little easier to recruit to Florida than OM, so directly comparing classes at those two schools is a little flawed. Plus Mullen's classes at Florida were inflated by non-qualifiers.

The original point being argued is whether Kiffin has accomplished enough to deserve to be a leading candidate at aTm. If what Mullen did in Starkville was enough to make his a qualified candidate at Florida, hasn't Kiffin been equally successful at Ole Miss?

If they come calling, which I don't think they do, he would be crazy not to go. Strike while you're the hot name, I just don't see the FSU success being long term for Norvell so why not get that big contract while you can.

And my point was that he's done nothing Mullen hasn't. . . So, do you disagree with that? He did, and we had a "discussion" about it.

And honestly (and sadly), Ole Miss reputation right now is as good or better than UF when Mullen was here. Hotty Toddy and all that crap. They're an ESPN darling.

Fair enough, I don't disagree with your first point. The only argument I could make is Kiffin improved two schools in a row as their head coach, going back to FAU, to distinguish him from Mullen. But its not enough to really disprove your original point here.

That being said, I still would argue he's been successful enough to warrant interest from a bigger program like aTm. The real question is will Kiffin's recent success translate to a bigger program better than Mullen? Does Kiffin have red flags and liabilities like Mullen did that would prevent him from winning at a bigger program? I don't know.
