Should be doing it now. They're not playing for a playoff slot, bowl game, anything other than to close out the season. Why not bench an underperformer? I think the answer is that while the defensive players might not be all SEC the defensive staff also doesn't know how to use what it has. If your defense gives the opposing team 700 yards and let's them get an average of 11+ yards per play (just wow) you have nothing to lose. Heck, suit up the most spirited fan in the student section. From what I hear on here the talent level should be the same.
No accountability? With more depth like @ETGator said, we can use the stick some. Right now it’s all carrots and it ain’t working.
No need to beat around the bush. Need to just admit that this coach does not have what it takes. The school just needs to admit it and move on from him. And for pete's sake, PLEASE: NEVER HIRE BASED ON JUST THE ONE QUALITY THAT THE PREVIOUS COACH DID NOT HAVE!!!! Need to find someone with the overall ability to get this program in the right direction: Recruiting, Coaching, Game Planning, Offense, Defense, Special Teams, Public Relations, Staffing, Motivating Players, Personality, FLORIDA TIES!!!!!
Our tackles seem out of shape and slow. On both sides of the ball. Now, I’m not certain if both OT should really be guards. In general, our LB, DB and WR, RB are all smaller and not necessarily fast or strong. Hopefully S/C and confidence building from experience can affect some of these. No pressure No protection
Does anyone have this type of depth anymore (besides the top 5)? I mean, we're going to have about 35-40+ new players next season (again!), which is nearing half the scholly limit. The days of TRUE depth are gone (for now).
They are fighting, you are correct but you don’t think in year 2 Billy could have went at the portal hard?
Billy likes to talk culture. Sometimes it seems that’s why he’s not such a big portal guy. Then I look up and see what you guys see- guys trailing at half speed and think hmmm maybe we need guys out of the portal and winning will cure things and we sit those that are jogging.
He did pound the portal hard. Starting QB, starting RG, starting RT, starting DT, starting NG, starting ILB (after Shemar injury)…and starting portal transfers at RB, WR and CB from the year before. Stop with your false narrative.
Our defense is SLOW. On top of that the defensive backfield are poor tacklers. I'm not sure what the DC was doing in the second half after a really nice 1st, but it never worked.
If we can keep next year's class together we will have more of options to cure those that need to sit for not hustling enough in games. However... I not sure talent is the problem when it comes to rotating players in and out of the game.
Go look at the portal ratings for last year....although BN did bring in some players from the Portal, they were not highly rated. Ironically, the one that Gator fans bemoaned the most has turned into one of the best QB's the Gators have had in the last 15 years.
I get that, and I attribute it to NIL valuations based on how we valued current players, HS prospects and transfers. But to sit here and say we didn't work the portal is completely false.
I guess he thought he had the safety over the top and took a horrible angle. Marshall has been extremely disappointing this year.
It does not get fixed until the younger athletes push the older, lazy ones to perform better or get replaced. Yelling at lazy athletes does not help. The younger ones are not quite ready to throw in there. I might argue that with two games left this is the time to burn some redshirts or try some undersized talent (assuming some talented freshmen are being held back until they gain 10 pounds of muscle).
I actually agree with this. I was happy with the effort and play calling and fight. It may be the most satisfied I was in a loss in a while. My complaints were not a single game complaint about the LSU game or game plan- it was more a 30,000 foot view 23 games in, 10 games into year 2, watching the landscape of college football and understanding there are teams around the country that have less talent that don’t have our issues.
