There's just one thing: I just happened to see a replay of one of their QB's long runs. And there were multiple UF defenders trailing the play at clearly less than their full speed. I'm not convinced that UF has talent that is inadequate to be competitive. But, I am coming to the opinion that there are guys on defense not putiing out their best effort, at least not all the time. And if that's true in a game, it's almost certainly true in practice too. Depth may or may not be thin. But, if I were a coach, lack of effort would earn a guy a long period of soakin' oak on the bench - no matter what. The fact that it doesn't seem to case, is highly concerning to me about this staff.
right. We need more horses but those horses go to Bama, OSU, and UGA. The horses we DO get can’t be bad enough to get torched the way this D has this year. No way anyone will convince me of that
Seeing the same mistakes 10 games in isn’t a youth issue. Sorry. Look what Auburn just did to Arkansas.
And whats crazy is, the youth excuse shouldn’t fly: Sapp and Princely are 3rd year players, Scooby is a 3rd year player, as is Marshall and Kimber, and Cam Jackson is a 4th year player as is Wingo. James and Mitchell are 2nd year players who played a ton last year (James more than Mitchell). so yea, maybe those guys haven’t lived up to their recruiting rankings but nooooo way they are not only that bad but also the guys behind them are THAT bad to not get any extended PT. Like you mean to tell me Kamari Wilson was THAT bad of a missed eval that he can’t even crack the 2 deep?????
Does Auburn have the players? Because they killed Arkansas today. Arkansas ran through us like poop through a goose. No, we don’t have the elite players but surely our average players know how to tackle better, defend better, and stay in some semblance of a coverage scheme. It is astonishing how easy LSU and Arkansas last week ran and passed on us and literally scored at will. I see it as a combined problem of talent, depth, experience, toughness, and absolutely coaching.
LSU record 2020: 5-5 2021: 6-7 Brian Kelly inherited a team with 49 scholarship players and proceeds to go 10-4 and is currently 6-3. LSU had 6 players drafted last year and for the first time in 5 years didn’t have a first rounder. UF had 6 players drafted last season as well.
We need more players we need better players. We need depth so our practices are better. But that is less than half the issue. If you were looking at a pie chart of our issues- it would be a small sliver. We don’t play with tempo. We don’t tackle or play with high energy. We take bad angles. We don’t block or tackle well. Our route tree is boring. The bottom line is - the op and not one single other person watching this team from fans to media - can point to what Billy does ON gameday that gives us an edge. There are 20 coaches around the country and 10 staffs in the SEC that if you do the thought experiment of giving them our roster, are not 5-5 and do not look like this.
I 100% agree with this. I never thought we would have a defense that is so porous and soft as when Grantham was here but I was wrong. It’s just incomprehensible to me and I’m almost becoming used to it
C'mon man. We just need more talent, veteran talent, portal talent, NFL level talent, superior talent to anyone we play, better scheme, better coaches, better fundamental, better run fit, better tackling, better blocking, better vision, better leadership, better facilities, better practices, better practice facilities, better NIL, better recruiting, better S&C, better portal, better administration, lower academic standards, better focus on football, better nutrition, better parking spots, better fans, better boosters, better fan boosters, remodeled stadium, better lights, better ..........
This wasn’t the game to be bitching about coaching brain farts, with clock management, offensive play calling, ST …etc. There certainly has been some of those. But this team came to fight tonight …and they did. They got hit in the mouth and punched right back. Over and over …and over again. I had lots of questions after Arky, and KY …but sometimes you just have no answer for a video game QB, in Death Valley, at night, who should win the Heisman. We have Freshmen after Freshman after Sophomore playing all over the place. More so than any FBS team. And the outcome is probably on par with that. But, it was still a fun game to watch. It sucks that this is the end of this yearly rivalry.
You seem to be forgetting about all the terrible LSU fans who expect their coach to win games. It's craziness.
The portall allows a coach to remedy mistakes years before that could happen previously. We did not remedy the mistakes of the previous staff while guys who could play on defense are elsewhere. Imagine we had Tyron Hopper, Andrew Chatfield, and Antwan Powell-Ryland right now, it's enough to move our defense up a few notches. That is the nature of the game these days, things happen and we trusted the wrong guys which is absolutely a coaching issue.
Definitely difficult to watch, and being the least successful UF coach since the 1940s doesn't help the situation. I am sure there is a lot to rebuild after the constant carousel over the last decade and a half. Having some of the most difficult schedules is another uphill battle when you have subpar players. He needs more time to figure things out. I hate that as much as anyone else, but fixing all the issues and being dealt some of the hardest schedules is damn near impossible to overcome, except for the bad losses like Arkansas and Kentucky. Next year won't be any easier, so hopefully he has an epiphany and makes right decisions when making coaching changes during the offseason. I just hope they can hold on to the better "horses" that are committed and go hard at the portal. Seems like the only way UF isn't coach shopping in 24'.
