This is not an indictment on either the article or Napier and what he is attempting to do. But we do have the model for what is being proposed:

Mike White. Sometimes, more time only makes more shiny the ceiling. I am rooting for him (just like I did for Mike) but when they hit a ceiling, it is mainly about "is it good enough"? We shall see.

When you say "But I also can't blame anybody who thinks we need to jump off this train and go in a different direction", we have to really think about that dynamic. IMO, it's premature at this point to put forth negative energy on our team. We should let this ride out, however even more so, we absolutely CANNOT continue to be the team that fires their coach every 3-4 years. We are doing long term damage to our program, which can be seen by the past 14 years of garbage.
I would say if we have to suffer through another year or two to give CBN a real long term chance to fix this, then we should even if it means it may take longer to get where we want to be. If we hire a coach with the idea that another SOS or Urban will come along, we may be dooming ourselves to long term chaos.
The prudent course of action, IMO, is to support CBN, see what happens this off season, and hope for a much improved team next year. I'm not going to worry about year 4 now.

Because that’s the way it goes. He could have went to Auburn and got the same deal. Coaches that are coming up and have promise know they usually only get one shot at the bigtime. If they fail, their career setbacks lasts a long time and many times they never get another chance.

Does anyone find it odd that we need to have patience to allow the new coaches (year after year) in UF basketball and football to clean house and start rebuilding from "the ground up" because the last guy left a mess they cant manage to adapt to until they got their players and system in place. It is funny how many people think we are a impatient group of fans yet between football and basketball it seems like weve been exceptionally patient and filling the stadium while fielding thirty combined years of poorly performing teams.

And mid January- late August. Otherwise known as Talking Season. Napier absolutely owns Talking Season.

Agreed, but I doubt there is a single position at UF that requires approval from the BOT other than the President. I would think the UAA board would approve the hiring of coaches.

  10. Stricklin and the investors wanted to try something different, which is fine. I like that the contract structure incentivizes patience and methodical rebuild. Maybe Napier is not the right coach to win a championship, but he is the right guy to rebuild so that someone can win a championship with a rebuilt foundation. Previous contracts incentivized winning quickly to earn extensions and raises. This contract enforces patience, or massive investment (likely $100M combined between the Napier buyout and the next contract).

Or our admin has locked us into a untenable position that may leave us in worse shape than when he showed up. Its all just speculation at this point.

Can’t fire him now obviously. Too much money.

For the people saying we need continuity - that’s what Tina Turner said every morning while she covered the bruises up with makeup.

The ugly reality is we have the wrong guy and we cannot afford to make a change.
