They consider themselves at war. I'm not bending over backwards to believe Israel or Hamas.

Yes, I’m sure Israel are dropping leaflets to give Hamas plenty of time to vacate the civilian premises they are using for cover. You’d have to be a damn fool to believe that. Israel drops leaflets so Americans will say “they even drop leaflets to warn all those stupid Palestinians!!” When in reality, there is zero chance Israel are giving Hamas any forewarning of specific targets. Leaflets.. shows you how sick and twisted the war machine is and how gullible Americans are.

Please read the bolded area from my post reposted below and apologize.
What is it with you people and reading comprehension? I even emphasized my point with "To be clear...." hoping against hope people like you would actually read it before reacting to it.

Just so I'm clear, are you equating Hamas children with Palestinian children?

The issue I was attempting to raise isn't one of credibility, it's the expectation that warring "nations" will comply with international law. Again, for the benefit of the slower group (not directed to you,) I am once again not suggesting Israel has committed any war crimes.

I think all children should be considered innocent bystanders.

Those are haunting images homer. Those who have seen that level of suffering understand. Unfortunately most Americans (except those who have served or lived in violent areas of world) have lived in a bubble their whole lives. The closest they ever been to a bomb has been a movie theater.

As a parent of two young children, it’s mortifying to know so many innocents are suffering the consequences of broken adults. I don’t care if they are Israeli, Palestinian or Ukrainian. I pray for peace.

When a government places munitions, soldiers, command bases etc. In civilian areas, they make those areas legitimate and legal targets. This who condemn Israel most here have ignored Hamas’ activities in Gaza. They assess what Hama did in Israel and condemn it, but they don’t address the tactic. None of those posts a couple of days ago drew any response. The tactic works too. The world calls for a ceasefire.

Again, why bring up war crimes if you don’t think Israel committed them? Dumb argument on your part.

I think the world would be more reluctant about calling for a ceasefire if they thought what Israel was doing would lead to any sort of lasting peace.

And think that most of the World sees a “cease fire” as a great thing, too — it stops the killing of lives. Who could argue?! Nobody wants to see people die. War is disgusting at every level.

Unfortunately, most of the “World” doesn’t realize that realize that a cease fire will not IN FACT save lives, it will enable the terrorists to re-arm, regroup, and re-fortify its defenses across its entire population, including its civilians. A cease fire will extend the war, not shorten it. And while there is no doubt the concept of continuing war is sad, indeed excruciatingly horrible, the facts are not changed by the emotional realities.

It would save lives. Just not the right lives depending on who you ask. It would potentially endanger Israeli lives but there is zero doubt that Israel stopping the barrage of bombs dropped on Gaza would result in less overall death of innocent human life. Israel is capable inflicting far greater damage on Gaza than Hamas is on Israel.

All Hamas has to do is lay down their weapons and release ALL of the hostages and you have your cease fire.

That would be great but that’s not going to happen. The longer Israel continues to bomb Gaza the greater the chance they draw more countries into this fray. If that happens then they are endangering even more Israeli lives.

Then don't blame Israel, they made the offer. They are pausing 3 hours a day to give civilians a chance to leave, they are not hiding behind women and children.

Great column (and thread) by Gershon Greenberg on the purely evil political calculations of Hamas and unleashing October 7th

An argument isn't dumb because you don't understand it. Apparently you are doubling down on your apparent 100% inability or unwillingness to read a clearly worded sentence rather than simply acknowledge you made an error. My point was that while Israel has not committed war crimes, they should avoid violating international law in the future. TO BE CLEAR, I'm NOT suggesting Israel plans to do so, simply that they should not commit war crimes going forward.

I think your saying that all lives matter in this context is not dismissive in any way but rather entirely appropriate and compassionate. ❤️
