Maybe there is a financial incentive for Billy if he doesn't hire an OC and ST coach. Could there be a bonus if he comes in under budget or something because it sure is a head scratcher as to why he would not get at least a special teams coach.

He made significant changes last year and more than likely will again. Complain if he doesn’t but until then, we all watch the same games.

Billy G double duty and ST coach (with a raise).

Calloway OC and TE coach (with a bigger raise).

Then no need to fire one of our two precious OL coaches.

Billy remain QB coach and head coach, which requires very little on game day.

The men are already in the building. Seems pretty simple to me.

And those changes do not require an off-season to do it in. The truly disturbing thing for me is that all of this could have been done long ago but it hasn't. And yet we still see the same miscues and then are given the same promises that they will get "fixed" but never are. Frustrating.

What part of our 2 OL coaches screams “keep this in place?” Not being a douche, sincere question. It is clearly not the recruiting nor the on field performance.

If those guys were killing it I would adjust around them. As it lays out now, not sure either deserves being retained. Certainly not at the expense of other functionality.

    I totally agree.

My point was that the above, internal, reallocation of responsibilities can be done without firing anyone on the current staff. Which is always easier.

Personally I hope Billy lets Stapleton go after the season (or both OL coaches) and hires a dedicated OC, mainly because i think he needs to be the head coach only on game days. But I would not be disappointed with Calloway calling plays. Or with Billy G also coaching special teams.

Agree! Billy has to understand that as the CEO, you cannot run the manufacturing line (coach QBs and call plays). He also has to understand that as the leader, you are both cheerleader, punching bag, and dedicated a$$hole. It all lands at your feet to beat, lead, and manipulate your team to success, but you are the brain behind the curtain every day, only rarely the game day hero.

I would fine any explanation of why a ST coach is unnecessary giggle silly. Letting a kid on the team run it is beyond belief and destined for continued failure at inopportune times.

Other teams do just fine without giving someone the title of ST coach. The notion that we must have one is silly. What's important is that the ST get fixed, don't care whether they have a guy with that title or not.

I watched urbs being interviewed on a different Gator site by a person who's name is not allowed to be posted on GC. Here is what he said about special teams:

He talked a great length about the importance of special teams and how he thinks the ST coach should be the Head Coach. Talked about the ST play against SCe in 06 and against arky in the SECCG in 06. He says in all these close games ST's are the difference maker. He also talked about how he got Starters to play ST's. For what it's worth, he also said if we play like we did against UcheaT, then we will beat LSWhoo.

Don’t worry about it. None of the next few games are likely to be close enough for special teams to play a decisive role.

Ultimately that would be the head coach, which is why there is so much heartburn after 22 games of seeing the same mistakes again and again and it costing us games.

Not my point. Who runs special teams? Napier is always ultimate responsible.

Well supposedly, that would be the Gamechanger coach named Chris Couch who is an analyst that is not allowed to coach on the field. No idea who's responsibility it is on the sidelines to get them ready to go into the game and BN has been reluctant to name names.

He doesn’t need to name names but he needs to fix the confusion. NPier set up the chain of command and it’s consistently failing. Maybe he needs a mirine drill instructor experienced in basic training.

Continue to ignore ST doesn’t mean the problem will go away.
