Agree. It’s going to be popular to go in on Clayton, but as a PG myself I know that sometimes you just have a game like that where it just gets worse and worse. He played hard, and I expect big things from him going forward.
They had 15 steals to our 4. That’s a crazy number. Almost as crazy as 2 fouls called on them in the first 25 minutes, then 12 in the next 15. They must have got a call from their bookie, or the mob.
You didn't read all my posts then. I said I was encouraged by the game and I think we'll be tough if Pullin is as advertised. I love the Micah-Samuel combo. Based on what I've seen so far, which isn't much, I think we are a mid level SEC team. Our success will be tied to how quickly Condon and Hauch can get up to speed and can be productive without fouling.
I think I'm cursed. Second time watching us lose in Charlotte. Those two turnovers by Clayton happened about 20 feet in front of me. They were bad. Some of our threes were dead on from Richard and came in and out when shot right in front of me. Kugel will clean it up. You can tell in person he was the most talented guy on the court by a mile.
It was not a good night for the back-court overall. Although Kugel ended up with 17 it wasn’t efficient. Obviously Clayton had the unfortunate finish. It wasn’t all bad, very impressed with the group of players Golden assembled here (and obviously have yet to see Pullin at the point). But dayum that was some sloppy ball. I know UVA traditionally defends really well, but so many of those entry passes seemed boneheaded. The last play was damn ridiculous with a timeout in the pocket. We lost the turnover battle 16-6. That was the ball game (it gave away our rebounding advantage). Need to clean that up.
in the second half late McNeeley grabbed our center and held him, arm over shoulder so he couldn’t get a rebound, no call. Next play mcNeeley tried the moving screen. The kid got away with murder but it’s just like Butler, slap, push, grab and body check. Only the officials can stop that crap. People get hurt from all the grabbing and body checks. The announcer was calling for UVA ball when Buchanan had hammered Clayton, one of the few calls that went our way.
That’s a good reason to maybe have Clayton off the ball late. Get the DPOY away from the ball. Just get Kugel going downhill and live with the results. IMO just poor judgment on the strategy the last two possessions.
I'm trying to post a picture, but it is too high quality. At least we played better this year. Our game last year against Oklahoma was atrocious. I'll probably be back in December for our Jumpman game.
I was at the Butler game where Mike Miller hit the final shot, so I know when you play teams like this you have to beat them and the officials. In Charlotte everyone was cheering for Virginia and even the game announcers. screw job on a young team that is going to get better.
Virginia has already jumped into one of the most annoying fan bases after only attending one game. They complain about EVERYTHING! lol.
When is the last time we won rebounding by that margin against a team with good talent? It has been a while.
