Believe it or not, when I was a building inspector for Orange county someone called in a complaint about a couple of boys building a tree house in Bay Hills. No way was I going to write a violation on a kids tree house. I turned it over to the homeowners association to deal with instead. Bay Hills was a pain in the ass, I think the homeowners there were jealous of their neighbors in Islesworth and complained about anything that didn't look perfect to them. Thank God it was built out and I only had to deal with additions, remodels and tree houses.
I got into a back and forth with my HOA over taking my Christmas lights down in February. They refused to believe me repeatedly telling them they had the wrong house until I explained to them that I was Jewish.
Back in 2004 we were warned by the president of our HOA that our John Kerry yard sign violated the bylaws of the HOA which prohibited the display of signs except for those posted by realtors. A year earlier the same guy who was a Republican activist posted yard signs in front of house on behalf of his wife who was running for a seat of the Board of County Supervisors as a Republican.
That’s funny but one of my Muslim friends won his neighborhood Christmas light contest a few years ago.
That happens quite frequently in HOA, in our neighborhood I have good relationship with my immediate neighbors who our very liberal, one had a Biden sign, and I had a Trump sign. I received a letter, and he didn't. We joked about it, and I told him I sent a picture to the Hoa of his sign, he never got a letter, and I never removed my sign.
Reminds me of my former neighbors who were Muslim Pakistani immigrants. They put up a great display of Christmas lights every year. Although I never discussed it with them I assume that they considered Christmas or at least the way it's celebrated in the US as a secular holiday and put up the lights to demonstrate that they were assimilating.
Not going to claim he speaks for all Muslims but he said he could celebrate Christmas but not Easter. Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet so there is no problem celebrating His birth. However, they won't celebrate His resurrection. Having said that, it certainly would not be typical for a muslim to celebrate Christmas in the Middle East. But he did tell me that last year he was face timing his brother (they are Lebanese, but don't recall if he lives in Lebanon or the UAE) and was surprised to notice a Christmas tree in the background. His brother said lots of wives over there see Christmas shows or videos on the internet and pester (his word) their husbands to do some Christmas stuff for the kids.
