Well, the voters have been deciding that they want abortions legal, so that is what will happen. R's need to let it go or they will get crushed IMO.

    Party of science. lol
Unless they disagree with the science.
There is no science that can say at conception is not the beginning of Human life. We can discuss and compromise at what point the heart starts, feels pain, viability and I think those are all only compromises to when it is acceptable to end human life. If I was king there would be none except for health of the mother, but I am not and I am willing to compromise with those who would end a human life at some point in the womb. I think most republicans feel this way and very few have tried to push total bans. No democrats other than the stumbler in chief in his bumbling way says negotiate after 25 weeks. If you guys really believe there is a compromise, why have the leaders of your party not come out with a time frame? You all call Trump the leader of the pubs, his stance used to be prochoice and about 15 years ago became pro life but is in favor of the states deciding and nearly every other pub candidate have given their views. Why hasn't your side grown a pair and put something out there to discussed?
POLITICS!!!!!!! If we actually had a compromise, you couldn't have the issue to try blame the R's for a total a total ban. That will never happen!

They can't get past that fetal heartbeat nonsense. The chambers to the heart develop at 17-20 weeks, a heart doesn't beat without chambers and valves.. The fetal heartbeat the anti-choicers are always bringing up is a synthesized sound from the ultrasound machine detecting an electrical pulse. The ultrasound machine could just as easily be made to make fart sounds when it detects the pulse rather than the heartbeat sound it makes now. The machine is set up to manufacture a sound parents are familiar with as a heartbeat.

I know this but the voters don't want 6 week abortion bans either. A reasonable compromise is 20-24 weeks. R's are getting killed on this issue and will only continue. Make the D's defend not having a limit(unless for health of the mother). R's are on the wrong side of this issue. Not a debate at all.

The Ds aren't going to offer a compromise. Why should they? This is hurting Rs at the ballot boxes and in this case, the Ds are going to put party over country.

I've also yet to see a compromise that includes repealing the Hyde amendment. A 20 week ban that doesn't offer funding is still an issue, since the #1 reason a woman waits is financial. The compromise also needs to include health of the mother, not life, and needs to put the decision in the hands of medical professionals.

A compromise is likely possible. But right now the Ds have the advantage and its helping them. They have little to no motivation to propose a compromise right now.

I personally don't think 6 weeks is to early but that is my preference, I truly believe most of the country is somewhere in the second trimester area of 12-24 weeks. The best and only strategy is to force the Dems to give their timeline. Anything short of unfettered will send the loony left into spasms!

Lost in all the Democratic victory parties was this little nugget:

Exonerated ‘Central Park Five’ member Yusef Salaam wins New York City Council seat

Exonerated “Central Park Five” member Yusef Salaam won a seat Tuesday on the New York City Council, completing a stunning reversal of fortune decades after he was wrongly imprisoned in an infamous rape case.

Salaam, a Democrat, will represent a central Harlem district on the City Council, having run unopposed for the seat in one of many local elections held across New York state Tuesday. He won his primary election in a landslide.

The victory comes more than two decades after DNA evidence was used to overturn the convictions of Salaam and four other Black and Latino men in the 1989 rape and beating of a white jogger in Central Park. Salaam was arrested at age 15 and imprisoned for almost seven years.

They aren't people. They are fetuses. There is some narrow thinking going on in this country and ignorance when it comes to the complexity of pregnancies. We take it for granted, those of us who have had children seamlessly. Then there are these children that need the right to have an abortion:

While that is powerful I still dont think you need a sad story to get an abortion. Basically if you just dont want a kid you should be free to get an abortion right up til the Roe rule. Roe was a fine compromise.

I think abortion should be a state issue, but I have an issue with prohibitions on people crossing state lines to receive one in a state where it is legal.

For the lawyers, wouldn't there be Dormant Commerce Clause implications for something like that?

And what about the brain? Same thing.

When Does the Fetus's Brain Begin to Work?.

The stereotypical hormonal stress response of adults or older infants, of about 18 months onwards, reporting pain is observable in fetuses at 18 weeks' gestation. Behavioural reactions and brain haemodynamic responses to noxious stimuli, comparable to adults or older infants, occur by 26 weeks' gestation.

You are correct on all counts. I read the operators Manuel for the Doppler fetal monitor device and it states explicitly that they devised a way to convert the electrical impulse on the streak of presumptive cardiac muscle into sound.
The rest I remember from 2 semesters of embryology/developmental biology.
