Kinda like when Jimbo was coach in waiting and Bobby was running the show towards the end of his career. What a train wreck that was.

I know this is a BIG what if and no I don’t see it happening. However, what if CBN doesn’t hire an OC but he does hire a full time special team coordinator? What do you guys think the temperature of the fan base would be?

Good question but I thought this could go in the thread where we're already discussing a possible OC so merging . . .

Alright, serious answer, for me personally, I don't care what the coaches call themselves as long as what they are doing is working, and this isn't working. If Napier doesn't fix special teams for next year, he opens himself to valid criticism that everyone saw this problem, knew it existed, and he still couldn't fix it. Casts serious doubt that he's the right guy. I think everyone would turn on him at that point.

I just want to see the team get better. Next year is brutal, and we might not get to 6 wins (again?), but I want to see a competently coached team that looks to be improving.

Hiring a new OC will give time and the excuse of saying the offense needs time to mesh if things start out poorly. If they do well it was a good hire. If he rolls out the same 3 yards and cloud of dust and it looks the same he will need the fire department to cool him down. Losing to UM at home early will NOT go over well under any circumstance.

I don’t have a prospect, but when I watch Payton and Eli broadcast Monday night football it’s almost like they’ve already seen the game film calling out situations and defense coverage. They can’t be the only ones out there with super high offense IQ. Go get Tom Brady

Because OC is NOT OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM. In fact, it isn't in the top 3, IMO.

    OL
Defensive talent across the board (help coming)
    ST disaster

We could hire Joe Brady (above), and still be losing most of these games. Our offense and offensive play calling isn't losing games for us. Come on, guys.

This is realistically what is going to happen, IMO. Or reassign a coach (double duty) to a position and ST (Peterson maybe?). If Billy does NOT assign a game day coach to ST, the fans will lose their every loving minds after our first ST blunder next year.

Um no, he didn’t. His misuse and/or enabling of AR to take plays (games?) off and inability to capitalize on AR’s strengths has been well documented.

    I’m sure you’ll disagree. Whatever.

Next year yes. The past two seasons it wouldn’t have mattered much. I’ll take the young guys for the future.

It was a problem last year and he didn't fix it then.
