What's left to play for since they have dropped the last two games?

Discussion in 'RayGator's Swamp Gas' started by archigator_96, Nov 8, 2023.

  1. No idea. I can just point to polls and Vegas odds to point out that Oklahoma is in a different position than Florida. Year over year Oklahoma is still in the top 10 for roster talent profile, they still recruit near the top 10, and they still finish in the top 15 in polls. Florida cannot say any of that year over year.

You're right when looking back, but I doubt that's the case going forward. It wasn't last year, I'm thinking it won't be again this year and going forward.

Meh. Not really whining just somewhere between stage 4 and 5. Almost Acceptance.

At that point, you are just along for the ride.

    Or lose even more later.

We can't predict the future, all we can do is make the best decisions possible with the current set of information - whether with stocks or coaches.

    SIAP:

There is a simple formula in competitive sports, well besides acquiring enough talent. What you want and pretty much need is a couple of players on your team who HATE losing more than they like winning. If you have that, and they speak with their mouths AND their play and practice habits, you have a LOT to play for. But if you have folks who are not that enamored with the grind and are looking for an easy way out, you have a real problem.

Methinks we are sort of in the latter category. About all we have left is for a freshman or two get into some others' grill and let them have it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I will be happy as a clam if I am wrong. And while it does not truly count, I would accept one of the last three teams to just have a lousy game against us and lose it rather than we win it.

I guess I am to old and my value system is out of date.

I don't give a crap if UF is 0 - 12 in terms of supporting my Gators. FYI I went to every home game in 79 and twlocp.

Ya know, this is sport, a game. Disappointing sure when UF is not challenging for an SEC East championship and what could follow.

Myself I question the supposed "fandom" of posters that put entitlement and perfection as their "standard to follow or participate".

I also LMAO at wanna be coaches that have all the answers AFTER a play or game.

Then there are the idiots that apparently belive that UF is playing against "AIR" 100% of the time. Or those that think 36 million dollar buyouts are like buying a biggie bag from Wendy's.

Little life lesson for hypercritcal (fans), you CANNOT, enjoy or appreciate the good times as much, unless you experience the other end of the spectrum. That's why the SOS years were so glorious.

I can't wait for BAMA or UGA to cycle back into the garbage bin of mediocrity. Especially Bama, and they will, sooner or later.

So go right ahead insulting staff and players.

Me, I'm a Gator in all kinds of weather, or have most of you forgotten that little saying?

If you're a player and you have 3 ranked teams left, you salivate over the opportunity to show how great of a player you are against top competition. If that doesn't get you going, you shouldn't play competitive sports.

Beating FSU means a lot to US but we aren’t going to be on the field. Does it mean anything to kids who came to Gainesville to collect an NIL check? I guess by the end of the month we will know the answer.

I am old as dirt but I have always been a Gator fan and there is much to play for! I remember when SOS was the Gator QB we had a great season! Florida had never one an SEC title in football. We were on the verge of winning one. We had to play Georgia and beat them to win the title but we didn’t win the game. That is why SOS has a hatred for Georgia after all these years. The Gators have much to play for it’s some of the fans that throw the towel in or wave the surrender flag. I don’t think these Gator players or the coaches have surrendered the season. I have seen some in past years do this but from what I have seen from this team is their fight and no quit attitude! Go Gators beat LSU beat Mizzou beat the semiholes!

Unless you involved with highly speculative or risky investments, you usually come ahead over the long term. That’s the point. Of course there are outliers, but we’re talking about what is most likely.

Do we get an extra 15 practices if our bowl game is in mid December? I'm not being a wise guy. I just hear that mentioned a lot. And if we have an early bowl game, which we most assuredly will, how many practices can we get in?

Some of the guys on the team have not gained enough of a reputation to consider NIL nor the Portal.
If a young man believes he has the stuff to get to another team, then he will do anything to get on the field and show off what he has to offer.

Going through the motions on the field or riding the bench will not get you enough shine to get NIL or incentive to go into the Portal.

Agreed and I think a win over fsu is about the only thing left to put a positive spin on this season.

Of course there is a second take on your example.
Many investors fail to admit their bad investment decision, refuse to sell and hold on till bankruptcy arrives.

  17. That is up to the coaching staff. The rule is that a bowl team gets up to 15 more practice sessions.

That’s not the example I am talking about. If the standard is to account for all extended possibilities of an example that you present, then there is no point to ever using an example. o_O

  20. I took a look at Oklahoma’s actual and predicted recruiting classes between 2016 and 2025. They have landed or are projected to land a top 10 class every year except one in that span. In 2020 they landed the #13 class but they had the #7 class when adjusted for transfers. In 2024 they have two blue chip athletes from IMG Academy in their projected #7 class plus a few blue chips from Louisiana and North Carolina. Oklahoma might be in better shape than Florida for quite some time. Florida needs top-10 classes in 2024 through 2033 to match Oklahoma’s momentum. Based on forum comments, Florida might be on its third head coach by then. Just kidding.
