Heard a good interview with Bob Stoop's kid who is a WR at Oklahoma. He was asked what's left to play for since they have dropped the last two games. He said as long as there are games to play, there is something to play for.

It got me thinking about some perspective on our situation. I think what's left to play for for the Gators is for the team and coaches only. There's not a lot left in the season for us fans barring some kind of miraculous upset. But the team and coaches have a lot left to play for and it is about strengthening the culture, bonding with each other and developing their skills for the future. The biggest challenge is going to be keeping a positive attitude and if the coaches can do that, then the rest will take care of itself.

If you can't get up to play competitively with your cross State rival, you probably shouldn't be playing competitive sports.

Some approach it like this. Some are even more drastic: Like Coach Spurrier said. If Florida isn't winning an SEC Championship or playing for a title the season was wasted. I think as long as there are games left, there's a lot for me as a fan to enjoy looking forward to. I always like watching the kids and seeing how they play and improve. Just my 2-cents.

True, but again, that is just for the team and coaches. For the team, if they play their guts out and fight til the end, for them it's a good experience and they learn from it and grow. Because they know that they put everything out there and can live with it.

For us, it's just another L and have to listen to hole fans for a year.

I don't want to sound old but,, I remember when you could absolutely salvage an otherwise poor season by beating Georgia or FSU. We still have a shot.

  7. Oklahoma’s situation is different from Florida’s. For a few years now Oklahoma has been a top-15 team in terms of Vegas odds to win the national championship. Florida has not been in that conversation year over year in a while, with one anomalous year in 2020 and maybe 2012 since the Meyer era.

Florida fans refuse to accept the reality that the program is structured to have one good year every 5 years or so. Maybe Napier will fix that, or maybe we will chase him away. This team is young, so they should be playing for bowl eligibility. They could use the extra 15 practices. The early enrollees could use the college level practice sessions. The athletes could use the excitement and free swag that comes with bowl participation. We as fans do not gain much from watching the Gators play in a lower bowl game, but the younger players should be clawing at the opportunity to get more playing time.

With NIL and the portal none of that matters to a large portion of athletes today. It makes me sad but that is the new reality.

If we drop the next two, then beat an undefeated FSU to get to a bowl game AND knock them out of the playoffs, it will be the biggest win in a LONG time. There is ALWAYS something to play for!!!

As Gator fans, we only get a handful of games each season. Enjoy them ALL no matter what the situation is!!!

Maybe you can explain in depth how the program is structured to have this arbitrary limitation? What are your athletic department and coaching experiences at an executive level? Must be exhaustive to be able to make such a concise judgement.

I strongly disagree with that. I think that changing coaches every 3-4 years doesn’t help build consistency. Take your lumps early and profit later. It’s like an investor who dumps a stock as soon as it dips a little. If they had just held on, they’d have made quite a bit of money.

I'm curious what you think Oklahoma's situation is the next 10 years compared to the precious 10. They were the big fish in the Big12 for a long time while Texas was struggling, now they enter the SEC and I'm going to bet they are much closer to 7 wins than 10-11 for the next 10 years.

Very true, not one of us around here have any influence or ability to affect what happens on the field. Unless you are in the position to spend 10's of millions to bring in star players across the board.

    In my head--- UF
I think there is a LOT to play for. F$U is a hated rival. I DISAGREE that it's for team and coaches ONLY. Family, friends, classmates, girlfriend(s).

I was at UF and in class with Kerwin Bell - even when things weren't going the team's way, classmates would say positive things before and after classes. He had the 80's stache, and he always smiled.

There is a LOT - and I MEAN A LOT - for me as a fan. The games are long but the season is short. Great days, game days are awesome. There are 3 weeks left, then nothing.

I'll be cheering, sweating, anguishing, yelling, brooding every play in every single game.

A bowl game in the balance.

    LOTS TO PLAY FOR!!!!

  18. History and contract structure. Until recently the past few coaching contracts were set at 4 or 5 years with extensions for hitting a contract incentive. The coaches chose to win quickly to hit that contract incentive rather than dig in, find the root problems, and fix those. Napier’s contract is structured to incentivize fixing the root problems. He gets no incentive to take shortcuts just to win a bowl game or win 10 games if that detracts from the goal of fixing underlying problems that have prevented long term success.

  19. Bingo! That is why Napier’s contract does not look like Muschamp’s, McElwain’s, or Mullen’s, yet we the fans are comparing Napier’s contract and “fireable conditions” to his predecessors. Stricklin is not firing Napier before year 4 because he cannot afford to and he does not have a $100M coach lined up to convince investors that it would be worth firing Napier with a buyout over $20M.
We should be preparing to take lumps at least until 2025 rather than talking about firing him for losing to Arkansas at home or maybe going 5-7 next year.
