Except in this case, I’d tell him to go over there away from the new coach’s staff.

I think Disbate graduated last year. He was decent and we could’ve used him. He was no mlb like Mullen tried to play him though. LSU ate him up

Either too heavy or too small to play LB. All of them with the exception of a few were tweeners. Too small to play DE and too big to play safety. So they all got put at LB.

You know what doing too many bong hits of gainesville green can do. Be careful, but not steadfast. That will damn sure get you in trouble.

Well. what are your thoughts? Personally, I hated to lose Hopper and Braun, especially in hindsight. But BN ain't for everyone apparently, or vice-versa, maybe. Admittedly, we'd be a better team if those guys had stuck. But they, along with a few others that weren't too bad decided for their own reasons to go elsewhere. I would really like to see a statistical breakdown at the end of the season from somebody who is a lot more industrious than I am. It will require a mountain of data and a little somewhat-expert knowhow to plumb the possibilities. Math nerds and numbers freaks unite!

He went to Utah an was used more as an edge, that’s where I thought he was better really. He didn’t seem to have as good lateral movement so I agree with there.
Went as an UD FA signed with the Browns as a LB go figure.

Agree someone could look at guys who left and why, where they went and what they did.
Hard to know impact if they stayed but being so short in some key positions I can’t help think it would have help just with depth.
Particularly guys that went elsewhere and are playing D1.

Can’t keep everyone when a coaching change happens but the general sentiment around here when guys were leaving was good riddance, they don’t want to buy in, etc.
I think that was simplistic and some did it to feel better about guys leaving. Like when your chick leaves ya and then ya spout all the reasons she sucked..

Summerall was a rush DE who did virtually nothing in 4 years at UF

Some probably just wanted some new scenery if the culture was as bad as some say. A fresh start can be nice. Surely there were some lockeroom issues. Everybody doesn’t always like each other. It isn’t always the coaches.

We needed room just like this year too. Guys gotta make way for this class and a few portal moves. I would think most moves from day one are about establishing the roster that would be on the field in 24-25 and moving forward. Maybe not so much about 22-23. We were never going to challenge for an sec title the first two years. I think that also applies to money going toward hs kids instead of portal kids at first.. the early portal kids will be gone by the time we are competitive anyway. Why waste it on 7-5 instead of 5-7, it really doesn’t matter. I’d rather have all this incoming young talent that will be coming into their own in 25. That’s when elite portal players should be added to key positions.

But he wouldn't be joining a team that clearly has better talent than anyone else in his conference. That's like the most important thing to his success.

Hopper was outstanding...he chose to leave. Miller was an excellent run-stuffer. Burney was an adequate OLB. Other than that, you are right. Everyone thought we had some that were studs and just needed to develop (Wingo, Borders, Black, Scooby), and only one has been able to get on the field consistently and his play has been no better than average.

Its the understatement of the year that we need all of those LB's to sign with UF, but it will probably be a year or more before they become impact players.

About a third of your list had their hand in the dirt, so not LB's. The one that left that really stung was Hopper.

Great LB conversation. Just sitting here trying to figure out how to tie that in with "who should be the next offensive coordinator?"

Incoming class, as has already been pointed out. Would've been nice to get more earlier but it is what it is.

Napier valued the QB run last year when we had a QB capable of running.
