I get that based on the roll, some teams may get tougher schedules than others. I just don’t believe there’s an underlying agenda to make UF’s conference schedule as difficult as possible.

    Well officially for 2024…

Each school's schedule in 2024 will include four opponents - two home and two away -- whose winning percentage ranked among the top eight conference winning percentages since 2012. Also, each school's 2024 schedule will include four opponents - two home and two away -- whose winning percentages ranked among the second eight conference winning percentages since 2012.

Ok, so perhaps I don't completely understand this.

Aren't almost all football games televised anymore?

    Can't you watch that film?

Can't you have a guy on the sidelines and ten in the stands filming the other bench all game long to steal signs.?

Coaches say they share this info with other teams all the time. I dunno why they would do that, but..if true, then so what?

Do teams change all of their signs after every season? I doubt it.

Really, I am just puzzled. I mean, I saw that video of Michigan v. OSU where the Michigan coaches and players were jumping up and down with one finger in the air, which was put out there to suggest that they had stolen the sign and knew what play OSU was going to run.

OSU ran their play, and torched Meatchicken for a TD.

    Hmm...

Yes. But TV footage doesn't include all signals from coaches to players, you'll only get a handful of plays per game. If TV footage provided everything you needed, Stallions wouldn't have been going to opponents game recording the game and sidelines.

No. The NCAA’s 2023 football rule book prohibits “any attempt to record, either through audio or video means, any signals given by an opposing player, coach or other team personnel.” It's extremely clear-cut, no gray area there.
Michigan investigation: Explaining CFB's sign-stealing rules, what's next for Harbaugh

It's not like Michigan broke some unwritten rules, what they did is very explicitly against multiple rules.

This significance of that video is that it (allegedly) ties a few dots together. It's true that stealing signs during the game isn't illegal, so in a vacuum the video isn't super incriminating until you add additional context. That was from the game's opening drive, so clearly Stallions believed he already knew how to interpret their signs from before. Add in the fact that he was documented being at their games earlier that year recording plays and sidelines, and this shows the illicitly gained information was being used directly in games.

Sounds like the conference needs punishment.

    Abolish the big10.

I think things like this have always been a part of sports culture, whether we like it or not. Sometimes called gamesmanship, or in racing they say if you aren’t cheating you aren’t trying hard enough. I think almost every team in every sport does this to some extent. In boxing you pay sparring partners to spar with and give up information on opposing fighters. I never heard a single QB or coach be critical of Tom Brady or Bill Belichick over the whole “deflate gate” scandal. Why? Because I’m sure every quarterback in the NFL got balls adjusted to some extent and the coaches knew about it. Media blows it up because it gets views and clicks, fans lap it up because it feeds into preexisting narratives about the other team but in the end things are always as they have always been to some extent. I suppose occasionally hands have to be slapped to remind everyone not to cheat too flagrantly.

There isn't. There also isn't some huge ref conspiracy. Lots of people live with no agency and prefer to blame things outside of their control for why they suck. Lots of these people also like to complain online.

Even if a perfect AI officiated all games and generated all schedules someone out their will get screwed. That's how it works.

I mean the key to an easy schedule is just lots of hard work. Just be better than them. Or whine about it after you lose.
