You obviously don’t watch CU. They have a guy named Travis Hunter who is listed by many as the #1 pick in the draft. Hunter and Sanders will be back next season. They also have some other pretty decent receivers and you know he’s going to haul in a class during signing period. He already has another 5-star on board. Not to mention he got McClain last season. He has won four games so far which last time I checked equals at worst a 400% improvement in year #1 for a program that absolutely sucked donkey balls forever.
Even if all of this were true, Mullen still vastly outperformed anything we are seeing with Napier on the field. His development and usage of Kyle Trask alone tells you all you need to know about Mullen versus Napier.
It's not a myth and we'll just have to disagree. I'll simply say the overall roster and depth weren't at all what was necessary to compete in the SEC. One game doesn't prove much one way or the other but that same team went 6-6 with a bowl game loss to finish 6-7. People in the building have consistently recognized and said it was a complete rebuild, including some heavy-hitting Bull Gators, so believe it's a myth if that fits your narrative . . . but, respectfully, you're wrong.
What is with all the assumptions people make here. Ftr ive watched more CU football this year than the last decade combined. 400% increase built on beating losers doesnt change the fact he is 1-5 in conference with a humiliating lose to stanford after going into half time 29-0. I posted the reason i believe they arent 0-9. I dont care who is on the roster doesn't matter. They are still a cellar dweller 1-5. The me show never deserved more than a passing reference wrt accomplishments early and now barely a peep. CU has nothing to show 70+ roster spot turnover works any better than traditional recruiting strategies. As an aside he is getting his QB killed weekly and it shows in #2’s demeanor from Sept to now, great coaching
I firmly believe that Trask’s success was almost all Johnson. Mullen had never demonstrated a downfield passing attack like that before or after Trask. Johnson goes to the Eagles in 2020 and look what he has done with Hurts. Mullen did not have a clue about how to use Leak when he first got here.
Mulle trashed the program and got killed his last year. We’ve been where he can go. Napier will do better or he won’t.
I think that the Trask/Franks was just like Richardson/Jones. It was very clear who was better but for some reason Mullen wouldn’t make the change.
The composite talent rankings from 2022 & 2023 does not back up the "complete rebuild" story. Also, it seems weird to repurpose the end of 2021 season suckiness as evidence for a complete rebuild. The narrative at the time was not that we needed a complete rebuild. The narrative was we had a good bit of talent but that the coaches had checked out & the players were responding accordingly. It was a little effort, poor coaching narrative. Prob with that narrative now is we have changed coaching staff.
Apples and Oranges, my friend. Saban and Smart had already built their machines prior to the portal ever coming into existence, of course they now have the luxury of being able to cherry-pick (and you can be sure they do).
There is more than one type of rebuild. Tear it down to the floor slab or just add a couple of rooms and re-model the rest. Napier for his own reasons that we don't know, decided that the former was necessary. Of course the former, is much more costly and time-consuming than the latter. Both can work depending on the architect. Both Spurrier and Meyer took the latter route and it worked out much better for one of them vs. the other. We'll get to see if the Napier experiment works but I'm afraid its going to be a long project with not nearly enough gratification along the way to keep "noise" down.
The fact that, but for an albeit unfortunate injury to Felipe, Trask may never have seen the field tells you all you need to know about Dan Mullen AND your insight. Add to that the toxic, cancerous culture he allowed to infect the team. And it’s well documented that our high school recruiting in the most talent rich state in the country, our state, was nearly destroyed through Mullens poor relations with high school coaches and absolutely awful recruiting practices. Without the Gator brand Mullens recruiting would have been even worse. Let’s not forget the lack of character Mullen showed when he abandoned the team before the season was over after his dismissal. Compare that with Ron Zook’s departure.
I’ve seen this mentioned a couple of times recently but was that actually the case? Zook was allowed to finish that season by Foley and still had the support of the players. Was Mullen given the chance to finish out the season from Stricklin and declined? I honestly don’t know but I got the impression he was pretty much told to go away, as he should have been. Not trying to defend Mullen and if given the choice he may have walked, but I’m not sure that’s a fair comparison similar to Muschamp/mceelwain. Muschamp was still somewhat liked and just wasn’t working but allowed to finish the season out, whereas mcelwain made up the death threats and not given the choice to finish because he needed to go
I did a quick search of the articles from November 2021 on his firing but could find nothing definitive about whether he was sent packing immediately. I honestly think I remember that he was offered the option of finishing the season but my recollection might be wrong: I acknowledge that. He is apparently a good family man and I do think he is a very good offensive X and O guy. But he left our program in shambles, in my opinion.
You basically had a team full of shoe throwers instead of teammates. The culture was rotten and a good bit of the talent that we had had to go. Hopper was good and I’m not exactly sure why he left but most anybody that was good was gone. White and Gouraige probably hurt as much as anybody leaving. Playing EJ instead of Richardson probably killed whatever chemistry that team had.Houston left because he wasn’t getting to play and from what his teammates say, he was clearly a great player. Mullen destroyed every bit of chemistry that thinking of ever had. It was time to blow it up and get a new group of kids and that’s what’s happening now.
Zook first year 8-5. Second year 8-5. Muschamp first year 7-6. Second year 11-2. Mcelwain first year 10-2. Second year 9-4 with sec championship appearance. Napier first year 6-7. Second year looking 5-7. Which of these records isn't like the others? Nobody is coming to hire a coach with a .440 record and no big wins.
