So this will be an interesting off year election cycle. Should help us assess whether people are more concerned with personal liberties for reproductive decisions or other complaints citizens have from the economy to immigration. 1. Ohio constitutional amendment to protect abortion access is on the ballot. The amendment was highly popular with nearly 60% support until the ballot commission led by the anti abortion Sec of State worded the amendment with words like "unborn child" vs "fetal viability" ... this will be close 2. VA state house and senate will decide the direction of Virginia abortion access. As the only state in the south that has not passed abortion restrictions the control of at least one house by democrats is critical... this will be close. 3. Kentucky Governor election in dark red Kentucky. The democrat governor Beshear beat Matt Bevin (yes that Matt Bevin) by a hair last time. Beshear has a chance to stay in office due to the restrictive abortion law... this will be close. Abortion debate has dominated this election year. Here are Tuesday's races to watch WASHINGTON (AP) — The most-watched races in Tuesday’s off-year general election have all been dominated by the ongoing debate over abortion rights. From a reelection bid for governor in Kentucky to a statewide ballot measure in Ohio to state legislative elections in Virginia, access to abortion has been a frequent topic in campaign debates and advertising, as it has since the U.S. Supreme Court issued its decision in June last year overturning Roe vs. Wade.
Well if we're really concerned about the lives of babies let's hope that the Democrats do well. Maternal and infant death rates are higher in states that ban or restrict abortion, report says
Alas, who can forget the Matt Bevin Victory Party, one of the greatest events in the history of Kentucky politics. Simply legendary. The races mentioned in the OP will all be interesting. Beshear has an enviable 65% approval rating as governor.
When one group of American's rights are taken away, it's not unfathomable to believe yours could be next. I'll predict a lot of upcoming elections are going to be one way or another, affected by the Roe V Wade theft.
I think all Republican victory parties in Kentucky are now Matt Bevin victory parties. That is just the law. Also:
Still too soon in Kentucky, but Beshear has been outperforming his prior numbers everywhere that has finished counting. Looks like the spirit of Breonna Taylor is guiding the way.
Didn't see this thread. Mods, you can delete the other thread I created. Dave Wasserman is predicting that Andy Beshear will win reelection in Kentucky.
CNN hasn’t called yet but they say he’s running ahead of his last election over the venerable Matt Bevin.
Ohio Amendment. I wonder if the Ohio legislature will be like the Florida legislature and just ignore popular will
