No good sides in this conflict? Man, you've said some off the walls stuff over the years but this one is above all others. Anyone comparing what Hamas did to Israel and Israel's subsequent retaliation really has some really sick beliefs.

In fairness he’s considering the totality of the conflict, not starting Oct 7th. Yes, Israel has killed thousands but it comes down to what one believes are the motives behind the attacks. Maybe I’m naive, but I don’t believe Israel’s motivation is to kill as many Palestinians as possible while I 100% believe Hamas’ motives are to kill as many Jews as possible. Does Israel value the lives of its citizens more than those of Palestine? Of course they do, and they should. Their obligation is to their citizens as Hamas’ should be to theirs. One side protects their while the other continues to wage an unwinable war knowing they’ll lose thousands. It really shouldn’t be hard to see, yet here we are.

It also depends on how you name the two sides. If it's Israel vs. Hamas, it's not a close call. No hesitation at all. Hamas is completely evil.

If it's Israel versus the Palestinians, very different calculus. And if it's Israel against the Arab/Muslim world, which are not coextensive although it's referred to that way, not remotely close to being easy.

Well there’s the problem. It’s not Israel vs Palestine and unless you’ve decided Israel’s goal is to kill as many Palestinians as possible, there’s no reason to label it that. If that’s what you’re calling it you’ve already picked sides.

If I was Israel, I would bring in directional bore machines, set up a base, and bore miles in every direction and then pump gas or ??? into those bores to make the tunnels uninhabitable. Lots of ways to get the rats out of the sewer without sending men into to do it.

I have a really hard time taking anyone who says "no good sides in this conflict" as someone who isn't picking sides already. I don't any fairness in what he said. One side literally raped, kidnapped and murdered woman and children.

I'm sure all kinds of stuff like that has been thought of. Not saying that no new ideas are helpful but I can think of some immediate problems like if the hostages are in the tunnels

Well sure if you want to arbitrarily limit the focus in a way that makes no sense compared to world reality.

Let's judge the effectiveness of the Gator offense. However, you are only allowed to consider the first half of the Tennessee game.

Good brief framing by David Simon phrased as only he can (if you follow him on Twitter, you will know what I mean). I am go to use the X link that doesn't show to avoid breaking board rules because rampant profanity is part of his style

Never mind - even x shows. See his tweet stream at 11:38

Look what happens when you hand a blank check to a government full of right wing fanatics, criminals and war mongers.

I wouldn't consider Hama to be a bunch of right wing fanatics. Now criminals and war mongers, yes.

Think the suggestion is that it's unfair to label the current Israeli government as "right wing fanatics". In that regard, posters here know better than Haaretz

In the last year-- the current Netanyahu Administration-- they spent their time sowing division internally, highlighted by their effort to emasculate the Israeli Supreme Court.

    That is over.

This war with Hamas would not be fought differently by a different government.

And, after its over, there will be a new government.
