    Here we go…

    Typing as I listen…

Tyrese Samuel: (15 points, 8 rebounds)

It felt great to be a Gator; atmosphere is insane. Everyone talks about it… everyone comes out. Rowdies are one of a kind. Can’t wait for the rest of the season. I felt really comfortable, we work on rim running. We work hard, so when we play… we practice hard and it comes together for a good outcome. It helps that we can shoot threes bc teams have to come out on our athletic guards - who can get to the rim.

    Coach Golden:

A win is a win… and this was a good team … good 20-point win. Somethings we can do better. It was our first game together; playing in front of fans. Overall- I’ll take it. Did good job attacking rim, Riley got off. And Micah and Tyrese got going. We got a little choppy offensively. But we had 17 assists. 58%.. we will take that.

Micah hitting the 3s was surprising to be honest- hasn’t shot a lot of those.. but they were good shots. And Walt gave him confidence... telling him to rip it. Alex was confident and comfortable stepping out.

Tyrese is really good with ball, easy to play with, almost a point forward for us with what he can do. And he is a guy who can go get a basket. He will be really good for us all year.

Defensively, we didn’t want to give up back door layups or 3s. I thought we got a little fatigued at the end of each half and gave up some 3s. That made the score a little closer than the game really was. Overall a decent job. Would like to see the number of 3s a little lower.

It’s a great game coming up versus Virginia. We will get all over film and learn as much as we can. It will be a good test and barometer for where we are at the moment.

Off topic and didn't want to start a new thread: James Madison appears to have hit a 3pointer at the end of reg to tie Michigan St and force overtime.

I expected him to be a solid player for us. I was wrong. He's better than solid. He's GOOD.

I know it's nutz to get into such comparisons, esp. early, but two guys who come to mind are Brent Wright and Vernon Macklin.

Maybe. I'm not sure he reminds me of any past Gators. But maybe a little of Brent Wright. Tyrese has a little more of face-up to the basket in his game than Vernon Macklin had.
That said, I'd pay Macklin to come to Gainesville and work with Handlogten and Condon on a hook shot. He had that down pat.

And here I was thinking Handlogten would go 2-2 every game
He's at 100% from 3 vs 8.3% last year, meanwhile Walt is 0% in FTs vs 95% last year
Something tells me neither will last...

I LOVE hearing Golden talk. Gives valid insight when responding to the questions asked. No real “coach-speak” imo. He’s been that way from Day 1.
    Very refreshing

Well, Micah earned the chance to get his digs in at Walter this week. Hope he's taking advantage of it.

Agree. Macklin was more of a true center, and he had exactly one move on offense. But in his time he became damn near automatic with that baby hook when he got the ball on the block. I don’t see that comparison at all to Samuel.

    Maybe Finney-Smith?
