The last three guys threw up some new paint and flooring totally ignoring the structural issues. Looks good at first and then that dreaded 3/4 year mark hits and welp cracks start to show. Maybe, just maybe building something SUSTAINABLE takes a little bit of time and effort.
While you’re right about the rebuild now I don’t agree that it was all due to Mullen, plenty of good players who start and or play at other D-1 schools left when Napier came in. In addition although there have been some portal gems, the portal hasn’t been used very well to fill the gaps.
He only has 190 yards rushing this season for a paltry 3.0 YPC but he does have 7 rushing TDs which has to help. Mertz has negative rushing yards but 3 rushing TDS ain’t bad.
Makes people feel like there is a valid reason we aren’t doing good, other than the one NOBODY wants to be true.
Our W column would be a lot better this year with FSU’s schedule and they would not be undefeated with ours.
And any coach that has a solid foundation is not going to be employed by a school that fires a coach after a year and a half or two years. He would tell that school to take a freaking hike.
I would love to see your list of plenty of top coaches that Florida could’ve hired. I don’t think there is a list of plenty of top coaches at all. There’s a handful of coaches to go around every single team and it’s very unlikely for anyone to get one.
They definitely changed the paint and flooring but they were criminal in covering up the termite damaged subfloor and joists they found when they removed the old carpet/flooring. They flipped the property for a big profit. The next guy rinse and repeat but after the 3rd flip the roof and windows also need replacing and the plumbing too as well as all the electrical because it was knob and wire and we had to open the walls to fix the floors and so this is what teardown rebuild looks like. In cars its called project creep. Eventually your get to a damn fine house or car it usually benefits the next buyer unless you really love the possession. Sound familiar? Ultimately with or without Billy he us going to build a damn nice program, will he get to live in it/drive it long term i hope so he is doing a sh/t ton sweat equity for the next 10 years
IMO, the sheer size and complexity of a P5 football program is unique in all sport, even the NFL. It dictates that a coach focus on either the program level, or at the field level. But not both. (Noteable exception: SOS.) CBN seems to be doing well at the off-field program level stuff. But, program organization of the on-field coaching is a big problem. Dual-hatting as a field-level coach, redundant OL coaches, no ST coach...it's just a mess. Mullen was just the opposite: good at field-level; not good at the program level. Muschamp: same as Mullen. I don't see why CBN can't tweak his staff structure and/or shuffle some responsibilties right now. Nobody is expecting any miracles in the next three games anyway.
You can count on one hand the number of plug & play coaches out there, that could slide into the captain’s chair and guide this program to the level we all want …with little to none growing pains. But they are all taken, and not going anywhere. I understand the approach SS is taking with BN. Bring in someone who hasn’t quite risen to the top but is rising, and understands the big picture and wants to be here. This particular job would be a “learning on the job” moment for just about anyone we could have targeted. I get the angst & frustration, particularly with the in-game coaching brain farts, but I still think we need another season (or 2) to determine whether or not we are on the right path.
That statement makes no sense. I just told you that UF is one of a few schools that has multiple profitable programs that fund the other programs. I just told you that UAA chooses how to subsidize programs. This matters because this thread took a turn from Napier’s contract to Stricklin’s. My point is that Stricklin is not getting fired just because the football program is not winning 10 games. As a matter of fact, it is Stricklin’s balanced budgeting of underperforming revenue in the football program that keeps the overall athletic program in the top 2 by Director’s Trophy and top 15 by profit.
One season and basically an entire offense. Can’t say we lost the defense because we didn’t have one in 2020. They were excellent and giving up third down conversions and throwing shoes though.
