a company has put $500M worth of nvidia chips on a massive barge to move it to international waters so they can develop AI independent of any international rules and possibly create a sovereign AI nation. Not a fan. The first AI nation? A ship with 10,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs worth $500 million could become the first ever sovereign territory that relies entirely on artificial intelligence for its future (msn.com) A floating data center containing thousands of Nvidia GPUs has raised questions over whether the practice could result in the creation of sovereign AI states in the future. The BlueSea Frontier Compute Cluster (BSFCC), created by US firm Del Complex, is essentially a gargantuan barge containing 10,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs worth a combined $500 million. In an announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Del Complex said the floating data center will offer “industry leading performance, advanced water cooling and solar power for environmental safety”. This will be complemented by “kinetic risk mitigation” provided by an on-board security team. ................................................ Autonomy, it seems, is the key focus here for Del Complex. The idea behind the project points toward the eventual creation of ‘sovereign nation states’ dedicated to AI development. In its announcement on X, the firm said the tightly-guarded barge could operate in international waters, and thus potentially be exempt from international AI regulations.
My wife was on this stock way early and has made a killing. Wonder how this will impact value, but my first impression is non optimism.
I can't answer these questions. Can you answer mine? Not being confrontational, I'm genuinely curious about how this will affect the stock's value, as my wife has a good amt of coin tied up in it.
sounds like an announcement was made for pr reasons. I can only assume they are trying to drum up customers or support for a round of fund raising. I really have no idea
Let me ask a question just to clarify. Your wife has a lot of stock of Del Complex? What exchange is that traded on?
No, she has stock in Nvidia, which is a chip company with a CEO from Taiwan. My wife is Taiwanese and got the stock tip from her father more than a year ago.
Just my unprofessional opinion, since the chips are just a part of the whole project I don't think the price will be adversely affected if the project goes south. If it works, it would help it.
I don't think this project matters much to their value. Their value has boomed because of crypto and the overall explosion in AI (for which they are well positioned). Unless the project fails because their chips failed for some reason, I doubt this matters much in the grand scheme of things.
