He likes pancakes! Some of that video must've been from early in high school when he didn't have as good of foot work.

Footwork doesn't look too bad for someone so large.

I wonder if his grades are good enough to get a Bright Futures scholarship and he accepted a PWO so it wouldn’t go against the overall count

There are rules against manipulating scholarships so he wouldn’t be able to get away with that if we actively recruited him. But…aside from the 85 scholarship limit, the 105 off-season limit and the 125 in-season active limit, the coaches can get pretty creative here. Billy says he wants 50 walk-ons, so that puts us at a roster target number of 135.

Bright futures is attainable by any Florida high school student just by having the necessary grades and test scores. It’s 100% merit based. So I don’t think this is true. It’s not “manipulating” anything if a kid can do it on its own. It’s totally legit.

It’s not the same as the rules designed to prevent football putting people on track scholarships or making up other fictional scholarships to work around the 85 limit. Just means it’s a pretty good to excellent student to have the scores, basically someone that would have a good shot at getting into UF without football. If you know a football recruit in FL is an excellent student but maybe not quite considered an SEC recruit (maybe mid-major or lower), it’s a great idea to push the idea of using bright futures with a possible PWO status or scholarship down the line. I think most kids probably choose a full ride if they get one, but for kids that dreamed of playing for FL it’s good to have a few PWO in the fold, and if they qualify for bright futures that can make a big difference.

But the rules say we can’t be actively recruiting him if he’s on another scholarship or something like that.

I have a hard time believing *none* of our walkons are on bright futures or didn’t talk to the coaches at all during recruitment. I actually assumed the opposite, that many are on bright futures.

I don’t profess to be an NCAA expert. I would grant you they might not be allowed “official visits” or might be more limited in what can be promised. That’s all reasonable. I’m just saying FL bright futures is wide open and available to all students who achieve the quantitative measures to qualify. I think that merit based makes it a different category of scholarship. But as I said, not professing to be an expert.

He looks heavy and slow. He's going to need a year in the weight room to slim up.

    Like you said, he's raw.

His quickness needs to dramatically improve to play on an SEC OL. However, he's probably ready for XPs and FGs.

Another project. Isn't the roster full of OL projects?

I hate to say it, and I hope he turns out to be all-world - but that was my first thought as well. Of course, as a PWO, there’s only potential upside, I think - no real harm if he doesn’t pan out.
