Hamas is almost universally regarded in the West as a proxy of Iran. Iran not only provides money, they provide weapons and strategic planning. Hamas being Sunni doesn’t change this. In fact, ISIS views Hamas as apostates, because they receive funding from Shia Iran. Which illustrates how lost Netanyahu is. Comparing Hamas to ISIS, when in reality, they are a very different type of enemy. Netanyahu has been deluded about Hamas for a long time and you seem to take your talking points from his government. I have nothing against him personally, but as the leader of Israel, he failed, massively.

Since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack, settlers there have killed more than 120 Palestinians and injured at least 2,000. They have forcibly expelled more than 800 Palestinians from their homes, blown up their generators and solar panels, and burned down tents of Bedouin herders.


Again: This has been going on not in Gaza but in the West Bank—which is governed by the Palestinian Authority, not by Hamas. Some of those killed were members of militant groups, but most were attacked simply because they were Palestinians. In any case, they had nothing to do with Hamas’ attack on Israel from Gaza.

Back on Oct. 25, President Joe Biden warned that the wave of attacks in the West Bank was “pouring gasoline” on the tensions unleashed by the war, saying, “It has to stop.” The killers “have to be held accountable.”

Yet Israeli officials have since said nothing about the settlers’ violence, not even after at least one incident where settlers attacked Israeli soldierswho were trying to stop their crimes.

In an era of darkness and blood, it is nearly impossible to remember that, from Moscow to Jerusalem, there was once a time of promise. Not resolution, not paradise, and certainly not the end of history––but promise. Between 1989 and 1995, the following things happened: the fall of the Berlin Wall and the liberation of Eastern and Central Europe; the collapse of Soviet Communism and the (seeming) end of the Cold War; the brief, but startling, appearance of a pro-democracy movement in Beijing and other Chinese cities; the end of South African apartheid; and the signing of the Oslo Accords by the Israeli leadership and the Palestine Liberation Organization.



It may take years for a new political culture to take hold among the Palestinians and the Israelis. It may be many years before the psychic wounds heal. Right now, to most ears, talk of a “two-state solution” is nostalgic fantasy and a “one-state solution” a recipe for instant civil war. With all eyes blurred by rage and grief, an absence of vision is the reality. But, as the Palestinian academic Sari Nusseibeh put it to me recently, “People have to be shown or given options. We don’t have the option of being pessimistic.” At least one source of inspiration is that era of history, not so distant, when leaders and movements, for all their flaws and failures, agreed to agree, and fought for the rights of ordinary human beings to live in freedom and without fear. That is a process that is never fully achieved anywhere, but it cannot be relinquished to a state of despair.

How many times have people posted information from the ADL, SPLC, or ACLU identifying the organizations of anti-semitism and racism in the US only to be dismissed by righties that dont give a shit? The GOP doesn’t care about Jews in the US. The only reason right wingers love them some war is because Muslims are dying. Seems cool to you guys. That’s not the same thing as supporting and protecting Jews in the US. If you want to support Jews, support those groups I listed.
