Why when we are defending 3rd and 10..…do we give the opposing receivers a 10 yard cushion?

…does our secondary believe that means give the opposing receivers a 10 yard cushion?

    is this coaching or talent?

The entire season has been this way. Ughhhhh.

Conservative football, afraid to give up a big play so play soft.

    Or even better...

When our OFFENSE has 3rd and 12, why do we call a handoff up the middle?

I know it was our backup QB (when Mertz came out for a play), but he's a QUARTERBACK too...throw a damn pass.

I just watched LSUs backup QB come in for a single play on 1st and 10...and he THREW A PASS. It's legal...I promise. :)

How about constantly rushing the passer with only 3. Might as well go ahead and move the sticks

The failure to account for the QB draw in the 2d half was a killer. He emptied the backfield and ran for a TD late in the 4th and for 20 on 1st and 20 in OT. There were no LBs in the center of the field on either occasion and you could see the draw coming a mile away.

To be fair, Mertz is the only Power 5 caliber QB on this roster. I wouldn't want Max Brown to throw pass either.

They are used to practicing against our offense. 3rd and 10 calls for a 5 yard pass at most, plenty of time to close the gap. They are surprised when other team runs a 10 yard route on 3rd and 8

Arguably our best position coach didn't forget how to coach secondary, I promise. He doesn't have the horses...not yet. He has some thoroughbreds, but they're younglings.

Watching USC today they give about a 20 yard cushion and it seems like the free safety is about 30 years from the line of scrimmage. It could be worse.

Yeah its like our backup QB is treated like we stuck our backup right guard in at QB....for god sake buddy just find a way to hand it off on 3rd and 17. Seriously is Mertz the only one on our roster capable of throwing the ball? BN has had 2 plus years to find a backup QB and when we need him its full upside down turtle out of water I give up on 3rd and long with any backup QB on the roster.

Playing soft works about as well in the SEC as it does in the bedroom....somebody needs to call Enzyte Bob to firm it up.

Rarely will any coach bring in a backup with zero experience and have him throw a pass that late in the game. One mistake and the game is over. You are thinking of Nussmeier, LSU's backup after Daniels got hurt coming in and immediately throwing passes. Completely different situation. Nuss isn't a freshman QB who doesn't even have 10 pass attempts in his career. He's a veteran QB who was at one time the starter at LSU and has nearly 200 pass attempts over 3 seasons.

Does Miss State have more talent than we do ?

They held Arkansas to 3 points.
