    No long post here.
    Simply said:
If the tackler takes out the ball carrier's source of balance and power...
    They go down.
    That is all.
PS: And for over 50 years, I have been totally aware of the principle of, "tackle them at their numbers"...
But when a 180lb corner back tries to high tackle a 220lb runningback/quarterback...
    It ain't gonna be pretty.

I like the one arm tackle approach or the shoulder approach.

We tackle like a team that doesn’t practice tackling.

3& 3, 6:30 left. Ark on their 35, good D call, #1 “hits” the QB 5 yards behind the LOS…high arm tackle attempt. That woulda been the game

Good point. They've been doing that since the 2nd half of the UT game.

You also need to be in position and close to the guy you’re tackling. Baby steps guys. Baby steps.

It is like we forgot how to gang-tackle like we used to do so well in the recent past.

Blame the rules. Defenses are gun shy with the way QBs are protected. There is a BWW commercial that is overall stupid but the one funny part is where the buffalo is saying, "so you get a penalty for tackling high? Yep. What about low? Penalty." It's become something of a moving strike zone where only in that sweet spot are you allowed to tackle. It could be bad technique. We went from tackling like in a pinball machine, to tackling high and you can't do that with physical teams like Arkansas who feature QBs built like linebackers and real running backs. There's a difference tackling one of our backs as opposed to some of the backs we play against. Our guys are shifty, not north south bull rushers that run over half the defense. I think that's it in a nutshell, it's who they practice against not helping them prep for the opposing team.

Oh and they tackle like they don't want to break a nail.

Exactly the play that makes me think, what else can AA do? He dialed up pressure, his best player has a clear run right in the QB's face and whiffs. There is no D coordinator on Earth that is going to have a successful defense if his players don't tackle. I may be out of touch with reality, but the rest of the season is focused on tackling drills if I'm the coach.

Defense looked totally unmotivated and lacked energy yesterday--Our DBs look like they're allergic to tackling, LBs weren't hitting their gaps or covering. Obviously we were missing the leadership of Shemar and Cam Jackson, but I don't think they would have been enough to overcome our defensive struggles. It seems like we don't have any dawgs on this defense at the moment, aside from maybe Princely. We should have been able to impose our will on Arkansas' weak OL yesterday.

Honestly I do believe that we will make significant strides next year on D regardless of our schedule given that we will have Boone back, our young guys like Collins/Searcy/Castell/Shemar/Thornton/Banks will have more experience under their belts, and loads of talent coming in with McCray, Filsaime, Waller, Graham, etc.

He didn't even need to make the tackle, all he was supposed to do is contain and slow him up long enough for help to arrive.

And once again our Strength and Conditioning appear to be highly suspect.

We seem to tackle like Prime Time trying to tackle Tim Tebow. (different era I know)
Your options are to miss intentionally or get a footprint on your jersey.
