I'm still trying understand why you're trying to send in substitutions, when getting the clock stopped is paramount at that point. Mertz needed every one lined up to get a snap off, so he could ground the ball. It cost the Gators five yards and meant the FG attempt would be 5 yards further out.....for me this sealed it, in as far as Napier not being a game time leader and coach!

Yup. This is the number 1 focus of the powers that be. Welcome to athletic mediocrity.

    I know.

I honestly just followed a girl (now my wife) to Gainesville after I got out of the service. It’s great academic school but so are the schools my kids attend. I’m proud of my degrees, but if someone asked me with a gun to my head what was more important: football or academics? I’d say football, easy.

I don’t think UF can compete with UGA, Bama, Texas, OU if that is their priority.

I’m not mad about it, it is what it is.

    Just venting Clay.

Yes, it is very good. That should be the focus of any academic institution, but the downside is for the sports fans like us. Some schools sell their souls (Bama, UGA, ATM, LSU, etc.) to be dominant in the biggest sport of them all, others, like us now, do not.

Up to this point BN is a failed coach. His saving grace right now is a good recruiting class (provided we can hold onto them) and most importantly his HUGE buyout. That's it. It's about wins/losses not potential. He has been given every advantage to win that most coaches only dream of and yet coaching has been brutal. About all he can and has said is we evaluate everything, we have to coach and play better, yada yada. A 5 game losing streak at the end of his second year if that happens which is very possible says it all.

Honestly, I believe our collective class ranking over the past 3 years has been top 10 or top 10-ish. Even bottom-to-mid-tier SEC teams out-recruit most other teams. Kids want to play in the SEC. We should absolutely be better than a 5 win team in year #2 of Napier.

As an example, he promoted up an analyst to TE coach and hired Armstrong to DC when Jim Leonard (former DC/HC at Whisky)was out there working as an analyst at Illinois.

I don’t see it happening, but I would love to play late-season spoiler like South Carolina did last year taking out Clemson and Tennessee.

I said this a year ago and got reamed.

The writing was on the wall but the excuses flowed.

We aren’t doing anything up top for another 2 years.

Okay, after a couple of zigs and zags, I got to watch the entirety of the game. I will post what I think this all means later. Probably early tomorrow evening. It will be sobering and maybe even brutal. But I seriously doubt that my "brutal" is going to be close to what has already been posted here.

Guys and gals, we have us a damn mess. And it does not appear that it is going to get better anytime soon.

Gosh darn it. Also known as "Aw, FUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDGE"

BN blamed in on a ST player who supposedly heard they were to go on the field. No ownership of game after game of poor ST play. Had it not been for the refs not starting the clock we would have lost then and there. Just another lack of big time college coaching on the part of this staff.

Yeah we're not spoiling anything. LSU and the clowns are solid teams.
That's what we've become as a program, hoping to spoil great teams' seasons. Pathetic.

Virtually none of those players, sans any true freshmen, were recruited by Napiers staff. Many teams with new head coaches have opt outs at bowl games- more than normal. (Transfers too).

I and others predicted it years ago. Stanford of the south, here we come. Us and Vandy should turn into a great rivalry very soon.

We have talent. I really wish people would stop acting like one recruiting class is going to cause a noticeable difference. Per Rivals, our 2023 class was #13 in the nation. Our 2022 class was naturally light due to the coaching change, but still #18 in the nation. As for what Mullen left Napier, 2021 was ranked #10 in the nation. 2020 was #7 in the nation. We had and have had talent for Billy Napier.

Agree. Plus, why not make the change now? If it isn’t working out, why keep doing something he knows isn’t working?

You can't just fire an OC mid season and hand over play calling to someone else on the coaching staff!!! It's just not done, that would be crazy!!!
