So the US is roughly 35 times the size of Israel. Does anyone believe for a second the US would pause or stand down or be expected to answer with proportionality if 49,000 US citizens were slaughtered in their homes and 8000 more were taken hostage by a group/county that had already violated more than an dozen ‘cease
    Fires’

‎The Daily: 1948 on Apple Podcasts

Interesting podcast about the 1948 war, the history, and competing narratives around. Really interesting to me, as my understanding of the history was pretty cursory.

    Highlights -

    Competing narratives / myths

    - anecdotes of how Palestinians view Israeli lands as homeland, including younger people who will claim spots that they have never been to, that their parents or grandparents lived in. The general perception is that they were driven out of these lands

    - Israeli narrative that Palestinians fled in 1948 and were not driven out

    - Both narratives above have some truth but are not the whole picture.

    - Jews already had a presence there and had been there for a long time. That presence grew as zionists from around the world moved from various Arab lands (sometimes driven out ) as well as post holocaust migration.

    - Various Arab and other tribes and faiths lived there, it wasn’t a uniform group who all considered themselves primarily Palestinians.

    - the area was divided up between land for Jews and land for Arabs/other. It wasn’t considered to be Palestine per se. The basis of dividing it up is not unlike how our states draw precinct maps for congressional districts with majority populations taking the area in question.

-Israel accepted the lines drawn, mainly because they didn’t think they had much choice. Arabs/others rejected it, probably because they felt they were stronger and would prevail in a war.

    - Once Israel declared independence, several Arab/other nations immediately attacked. Nobody thought Israel could win, but they did.

    - Many Palestinians fled due to the war. Afterwards some Palestinians were driven out (which Israel tried to cover that fact up over the years). Some Palestinians left for fear of being massacred by Israelis, which did happen in a couple of instances.

    - Some were later allowed to return. Others were not.

Definitely worth a listen. I suspect there will be some who contest specific aspects of this.

The event was bad enough on its own. We dont need whacky comparisons like that. People are not proportional.

One interesting thing that was said was the Gaza residents blame Hamas as much of more than Israel due to lack of food, supplies etc, presumably because even thy know that Hamas is diverting Palestinian aid to themselves.

Glad to know I was alarmist and nothing anyone should have ever worried about. A lot of us were ignorant and thought it might be possible, including much of the Lebanese population. But what do we know?

We probably aren’t the best model. 9/11… we spent $3T fighting in Iraq, then $2T fighting in Afghanistan, then a decade later found the culprit in Pakistan with a small cost efficient raid party. Im not positive but maybe we should have been more patient and saved $5T?

it’s a reasonable and fair comparison. Nobody would expect the US to Pause. And we wouldn’t listen anyway. Once we gained advantage there would be no pause until objectives were met and Israel should do the same. The only reason Israel would pause is if we threatened delay of additional arms. Which while possible would be shameful

Actually agree 100%. Collassal waste of money and resources. Mission creep turned our obtainable objectives in both theatres into feel good nation building non sense. Don’t make the mistake again.

I think it’s silly but it’s not worth debating. I do think that your last sentence is dead on though. I hope the GOP gets a clean bill going.

. I want to know what the media deemed very credible Gaza Health Ministry has to say about this.

Keep pushing hard IDF. No pauses. Let everyone see this barbarism will
Be dealt with as it should have been all along. Overwhelming force

The media isn’t reporting it. The sensationalism is the call for a humanitarian pause or ceasefire. Which would essentially be unilateral. I didn’t post it, but they found Hamas also attempting to divert oxygen canisters for the tunnels.
Right now the media is breathless over Israel targeting an ambulance in a caravan. The caravan and its route was disclosed. The IDF says that the ambulance was carrying terrorists— a well known tactic. A tactic used in US war theaters. Using human shields is a very effective strategy. Btw: remember the news reports as to how hard it was to move South in Gaza? That it was an outrageous illegal order? Apparently 700,000-800,000 people did. Of thr 1 million in northern Gaza. Israel talking to agencies about setting up field hospitals in southern Gaza. Meanwhile, Israel was roundly criticized for advising people to leave the area were this war would be concentrated. Then as to those who stay, repeated accustoms of collective punishment and targeting civilians by the same International organizations who criticized Israel for telling people to leave. And despite the evidence of Hamas operations in those areas. While everything Israel does is examined for war crimes. The world sure hates Jews fighting back and wants to protect Hamas. Can’t tell people to leave and then condemn Israel for actions Israel talking to agencies about setting up field hospitals in southern Gazain those areas. Can’t win scenarios built into Hamas tactics. And the reaction from around the world— particularly Muslim countries, demonstrations etc. show that they stand with Hamas. Because the focus on Israel’s tactics in this context— always on isolation and without the bigger focus— just supports Hamas tactics. Another example os hospitals— Israel proposed field hospitals in the south. Here is a link in that and the number of evacuees Israel talking to agencies about setting up field hospitals in southern Gaza

And as i posted initially Hamas stole the first aid truck that rolled across the border. I’m not surprised, but continually perplexed as to why the self proclaimed intellectuals continue with the same propaganda. Of course Hamas hides behind its own fellow Gaza child and female citizens. Of course they steal hospital oxygen and direct it to their fighters in the tunnels. Of course they transport fighters and weapons in ambulances. Of course they launch rockets from hospital roofs and playgrounds. Only conclusion I am left is they (intellectuals) are not really serious about civilized society actually winning these conflicts. They seem blinded and drunk by ideology or in the case of Talib, literally a paid spindoctor for Hamas.

Here is why: as soon as Israel responds, international organizations accuse Israel of collective punishment and genocide. It is a very effective technique to use human shields. It has worked for Hamas for 18 years. https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-rele...erritory-un-experts-deplore-attacks-civilians
