There is no evidence that minimum wage increases lead to unemployment. That's because minimum wage employees are also consumers, and their increased wages means more money to spend on other businesses that employ minimum wage labor. And the price increases? They do happen, but the raise in minimum wage more than offsets any rise in costs, and almost all employees have more spending power after a minimum wage increase.

Automation and AI are threats to employment. But as of right now, customer service is still a major issue. There are several pros and cons to self service kiosks in fast food restaurants, and for many, the cons outweigh the pros. Self serve kiosks are hackable, and there are still people who pay in cash for many things. Self serve kiosks in grocery stores and places like WalMart are also places ripe for leakage. Easy to leave a small thing in the cart and simply not pay for it, and then put it in a bag you did use to pay for a small item as you leave.

Maybe they are just raising their prices because they have something new to blame, companies have been doing that and blaming "inflation" already. Shareholders can cash some more checks, that's the only thing that matters.

I would probably be concerned if California was doing ethnic cleansing rather than raising minimum wage to a level that someone could still probably not even live on in lots of places in California.

One could argue that AI might be a help to the labor shortage and benefit to the economy.

in a way they are, wage increases, passed by the state, will force companies to look to reduce costs,ie lay-offs.

They just set the minimum wage you can pay a worker, everything else is the companies call. If shareholders and management cant cope with the pie being cut up slightly smaller and they want to retain their slice rather than growing or expanding the pie, that isn't the state's fault.

You said its news because other states would follow. Your next response is as relevant as the weather.

so leaving a state because of higher cost of living, including food and eating out, is not relevant?

If only your beloved Palestinian terrorists could tap AI technology to facilitate THEIR attempts at ethnic cleansing, right?

It is not relevant to the answer you gave... you care because you think it will fail and be looked to as a model. I asked why would people follow a broken model? You then said people are leaving..... it was totally out of left field.

Here is a pic of the exchange....
