What I was most struck by was the patience he showed throughout the dude’s rant. I can’t believe he just sat there and listened to all of that. My respect for Dabo actually increased after hearing that.

"Your expectation is greater than your appreciation." Truer words have never been spoken about certain fans.

Some places only have expectations but no appreciation. Also true.

I too have no problem with what he said or how he said it.

As I've said on these boards many times- 2 of my kids went to Clemson and I'm a fan.
I'm also a Dabo fan. And I agree with what he said.

But man- he is a little thin skinned. Nothing good comes from coaches listening to idiot fans.
(I know this was a call-in show, but the point remains.)

I do love the "your expectation exceeds your appreciation" line.

Generally I totally get that there is a ton of pressure on these coaches (why, I don't know since almost all have Millions of $$ in buyouts which guarantee a pretty cush retirement). However, when you see one completely blow his stack, that generally spells the beginning of the end: Muschamp wanting to fight fans after the FL:GA game, Jimbo sparring with his fans at FSU. It might have been staged, and Dabo isn't wrong about what he said, but when you come off seeming unhinged, its never a good look.

    Definitely- esp with the bolded.
I don't think it was staged. I don't think "Tyler from Spartanburg" was a plant.
But perhaps the idea of letting someone go on and then have Dabo respond was planned.

A few weeks ago Dabo went on in his press conference about the "1.5%" of fans who were ruining it for everyone else.
So it's been on his mind for longer than a week.

We need to listen to this Dabo rant (hinting at taking the Bama job) after each Gator loss

During the call, you could hear short snickers of almost comical disbelief from Coach Swinney. Tyler kept going… “So I'm curious, why are we paying you $11.5 million to go 4-4 for? And it's not just this year - It's been just the refusal to accept….” And then Dabo interrupted him.

"Hey Tyler, I've listened to enough of you. You can have all your opinions that you want. I don't know how old you are. Don't really care. But let me tell you something - We won 11 games last year. And you’re part of the problem, to be honest with you, because that is part of the problem. It's people like you that - all you do - the expectation is greater than the appreciation. And that's the problem.

“And so, you know, we've won 12 (games) 10 plus win seasons in a row. That's happened three times in 150 years. So if you want to know why? Clemson aint sniffed a national championship for 35 years. We've won two in seven years. And there's only two other teams that can say that: Georgia and Alabama. Okay?

‌"Is this a bad year? Yeah. And that's my responsibility. Take 100 percent responsibility for it. But all this bull crap, you're thinking, all these narratives you read. Listen, man, you can have your opinion you want. And you can apply for the job. And good luck to you.”

    The one with humans.

Although you can place a lot of blame on the person who invented participation trophies and the one who banned dodge ball.

Precisely? You have no idea what you are talking about. Then why did Steve try and come back in a few years after it didn’t work out in Washington? And why did he say he shouldn’t have left years later? Steve himself has spoken many times about why he left and it wasn’t the fans. He is not one to lie and even sugar coat the facts. He has thicker skin than almost anyone out there. My parents best friends are very close to the Spurriers and believe me, the fans had nothing to do with it. ZERO. He felt like he had accomplished everything he could and wanted to see if his style would work in the NFL and plus, Foley didn’t support him regarding the Bowden crap with Dockett. Do we have some idiot fans? Of course- like all other schools. If you don’t believe me, look it up for yourself and stop blaming Spurrier leaving on Gator fans you disagree with.

wonder how many of those here saying they have no problem would be saying the same if Napier was making $11M and sitting at 4-4?

I think it was a combination of everything you said and the fact that fans where unhappy with 10 win season. He did mention it at least once. But yes, from what I read, he always had aspiration for the NFL. So......all of the above.
But back to the point of the thread.....Dabo Swinney should not have to explain himself to anyone. His overall record speaks for itself.

Me as well. Spurrier mentioned, more than once, that winning wasn't fun anymore, because of the fans' unreasonable expectations. He also was highly incensed when fans in the Swamp booed his team and said it better not happen again.

The fact that he said- years later- that he regretted leaving doesn't change what he was thinking when he left. It is also not surprising that --years later--he said nice things about us. What did you expect him to say?

He quit, walked out abruptly, and left us in jam to find a coach and salvage a recruiting class. That doesn't sound like a guy who was happy about things.
