Good thing our fan base doesn’t make hiring decisions. But with a fool like Foley making the choices for 20 years, who needs irrational fans?
That they are young should be the conversation, unfortunately it is not. Too many fans expect 18,19, and 20 year old freshman and sophomores to line up and beat the best team in the country, and then turn and blame the head coach when they don’t. Charley Pell had his 1979, Galen Hall had his 1988 and 1989, Steve Spurrier had his 1992, Ron Zook had his 2003, and Urban Meyer had his 2007. The W-L record gets bumpy when you have to play a lot of very young players. Anthone Lott was “Antoast” in 93 and 94. He and Fred Weary were abused by opponents and fans playing as freshmen and sophs. Both were All-SEC. Lott as a senior, and Weary as a junior and a senior. Let’s set our expectations a little more realistic guys. I expected 6-6, maybe 7-5 this year. We are on track for that. The team is young. They have had virtually no upper class leadership last year or this (Thanks Dan!). Give them time to grow up and let the coaches teach.
Do you really believe urban or spurrier would go 6-7 then 6-6 or best case 7-5 with the talent we have? Urban had just won a natty in 06 and spurrier had sec titles before that down year. Winning big does buy you some slack. what nobody talks about besides the “youth” on the team is how little power 5 coaching experience we have on the sidelines.
Don’t think there is much of a parallel between the teams Spurrier and Meyer inherited and the team CBN inherited. Also the toxic culture CBN walked into was about as bad as it gets. Adding apples and oranges doesn’t make for a strong case.
