You've got it exactly backwards. Netanyahu wanted to prop up Hamas in Gaza because it prevented the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza from uniting behind a single government, the PNA. They weren't weakening leadership in Gaza (Hamas). They were strengthening them.

Netanyahu made a gamble that blew up in his face. By propping up Hamas, he felt like he could control the damage. One as you say it made it impossible for a 2 state solution, and two their constant attacks, which seemed manageable, helped reinforce the notion that they needed Netanyahu to protect them. Then 10/7 happened and Bibi lost the gamble badly.

None of this is to say that there was ever any reasonable chance to come to a solution in Gaza as long as Hamas was in charge.

Are they the same reporters who said Israel bombed the hospital in Gaza?

I read his story. He is garbage. And there isn’t “regular settler violence.” He just re-tweeted an obvious lie. I posted an Arab source in the same subject.

Spot on. This is exactly what is happening. All the calls for a cease fire or humanitarian pause would allow the terrorists to re-arm or escape. The reality of Gaza is not that Hamas is an unwelcome dictatorship, but their methods are favored. With ample support from those in the world who took to the streets to support them right at the beginning. Because they demonstrated how “from River to the sea” is to be scored out.

Hasn't it been shown during Yitzak Rabin's efforts and subsequent violence on both sides including his assassination at the hands of one of his own that peace and compromise is nearly impossible?

I can't recall who said it but the middle east is a mess. Problems can be solved but a mess is only managed. Something to that effect.
