if this young man isn't the #1 QB in the nation please show me someone thats better. Taking into consideration all the background stuff I have heard about his attitude, leadership, work ethic and talent please show me somebody better. Also is that #7 WR the one we offered as a PWO?He and DJ was Gator chomping after one of those scores.
Not real sure what to think about him in as far as how he sees the field. I want to say he operated maybe 60-70% of this game with a empty backfield......3rd QT almost exclusively. I liken what I saw yesterday, to a 7 on 7 summer league contest, with most of his passes being either bubble screens or only 5-7 yards down field. Talent wise and tools, he has it all without question!
We won't be seeing long runs like that from him at UF. He's tough and crafty but not fast. Almost gets run down from behind a couple of times. He'll get a lot of carries because of his decision making and escapability. I think we'll also see some great passes when he's on the move.
Stats from Saturday's game: TWHS 29 (completions) 35(pass attempts) 383 (yards) 82.9% 13.2 --> 4-TD's 1-INT * Three more passes this game, than he had thrown all season in a game. * Yards per completion were the 2nd lowest of the season Rushes 13 attempts 220 yards 4 -TD's That's 600 yards of total offense! I personally have only seen one other high school QB pull that off my entire life, that being Tommie Frazier when he was at Manatee HS against Sarasota HS in as far as a run/pass combo (Tommie's were obviously were more influenced by the run). As I stated in earlier post about what I saw Saturday, he literally put his Willis HS team on his shoulders and did what ever necessary to get the "W" Saturday. He reminded me of Tebow physically and played the game in a Tebow style. How many remember Tebow in his team's state title game, asking to be put in on defense on the final drive of the game and playing nose tackle to help secure the state title for Neese? I believe Lagway is the type of talent that elevates everyone around him, over-all play!
Mahomes is not fast yet uses his legs very well. Emmit wasn’t fast comparatively to most rbs. Speed is often overrated in football. Not saying speed doesn’t kill. Other skills are just more important.
I originally thought he was a burner until I saw his clips and later his 40 time but DJ's actually what the Gators need. He's decisive and quick and sees the field well. Give him some time in the weight room but he'll be a true running threat by his second year. IMHO, he's already as good a passer as any of the "pro-style" QBs in this class.
i'm pretty sure I saw a social media post with him clocked on a treadmill running 22 mph...plenty fast. I agree that he isn't quick, though. He's a hoss. Get some downhill speed and he's gonna truck some safeties.
He has a pretty low center of gravity. Not a guy you want to see with a full head of steam. Hopefully he doesn’t use that often or at least he’s tough like Timmy if he’s going to use that physicality .
I think Lagway has nice wheels but it’s more like a Trevor Lawrence thing….you don’t want to treat him like a duel threat QB. Use your wheels for maybe 8 carries at most a game
I'd be thrilled to have a QB who was able to get that 1-2 yards on a sneak 90% of the time like Timmy...even if he wasn't running all over the field like Richardson.
I've seen last year's film on the top 5 QBs, and now this year's top 5 QBs, and Lagway's highlight video's (both years) are better than all of them. Including UGA's 2024 QB.
