Notes From Florida’s Scrimmage With FIU | GatorCountry.com
Gators win it, 102-60. FIU is no FAU, but they've been a competitive team for a number of years, so that's a good drubbing.
Will Richard had 29 points, Riley had 19.
Alex Condon with 12 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 assists. Good numbers for the new guy.

Not gonna freak out about Clayton going 2-12 from the arc when he has two seasons in college at 38% and 43%. Think it's more a issue of adjusting to a new position in a new offense forcing him to think more rather than react.

Even the best shooters have slumps so I'm confident Clayton will find the range soon. He's too good a shooter not to. And you know a guy that makes 95% at the charity stripe can shoot.

Clayton was MAAC POY playing at the 2 for, arguably, the best coach in college basketball. Dannis Jenkins helped Clayton’s game. TG is no fool. Clayton needs to play the 2 with Pullin taking on the Jenkins role.

    Thanks for this info GatorPlanet.

With Handlogten (takes stacking ten big logs in a log cabin to house seven footers) and Condon under the boards, we are going to get more rebounds than we have gotten in a long long time, book it! LOL

Well, that “fool” has repeatedly said Clayton is terrific on the ball and will play point. I tend to agree that Clayton got most of his offense off the ball last year, and I think Pullin gives us a ton of options, but I will be shocked if Pullin plays more than 30 mpg and Clayton doesn’t play at least 1/3 of his minutes at the one. He came here in part because he wanted to get ready for pro ball at some level and knows he needs to become more of a point (or at least a legit combo guard) to make that happen.

I guess another one of the frustrating aspects of the Pullin suspension is it will take even longer to sort out the backcourt rotation.

CTG has a lot of interchangeable parts this year. I think Clayton gets the start at point for the first three games, then moves over to shooting guard in the starting lineup once Pullin can play. Then he'll get backup PG minutes with Denzel for the remainder of the season. HOWEVER...assuming Clayton can handle fierce pressure when we are trying to protect a late lead, he might be the designated PG. Because of, you know, shooting 95% from the free throw line. Of course, Zyon shot 77% at the stripe himself, so he should also be on the floor.

    Nice!
I see UF had a 42-22 rebounding edge. Condon with 12, Hand Lotion with 10, Tyrese with 6.

You called Golden a fool, not me. You might recall that Golden said before the start of last season, that Myreon Jones was an All-SEC level guard. From what I saw of Clayton at Iona, he is not great at getting into the paint and creating for himself and others. However, he is a really good 2-guard. Zyon Pullin might not be as good as Dannis Jenkins, but he looks to me like a really good point guard. Golden’s rotation problem is that he has 4 or 5 guys who are really good for the 3 1-3 slots. I don’t think he will want to go small against most teams, so one out of Pullin, Clayton, Kugel and Richard likely will have to come off of the bench. I would like to see Aberdeen get 10 to 15 minutes of playing time at one of the guard spots, with the other four guys splitting the remaining 105 to 110 minutes. I also would like to see Pullin get all of his minutes at the point, which should be 25 minutes or so.

No, you implied Golden was a fool if he played Clayton at the one, which he has planned to do all along. But I’m really just busting your doctrinaire chops, haha.

I agree on the 1-3 rotation. Denzel is a real wild card. These first three games without Pullin will give him a ton of playing time. If he takes the reins and proves he can run the point and defend multiple positions with his length, he is gonna make it real hard for Golden to stick with a 4-man rotation at the 1-3. He will keep getting his chances through the non-season unless Rishwain immediately jumps into form. But Golden loves that 8-9 man sweet spot, which means we will only play 4-5 on the perimeter once league play starts.

I could swear that I said that TG is no fool. In other words, I expect him to start Pullin at the point, although I don’t know whether that would start immediately in game 4. I also expect Clayton’s shooting to be solid when he plays the 2. Clayton is a really good player. I also expect a 9-man rotation of the 5 guys I mentioned plus the 4 bigs who have been getting playing time. I also like Shimmy, who I believe is the most natural stretch 5 on the team. I don’t have a clue as to whether TG will go with a 10-man rotation when Shimmy is ready to go.
