Problem is the trenches are the hardest position to get top end talent in the portal, especially at OT where we need it most. Max 2-3 starting level upgrade OTs in portal each year, if that. Most are gonna go to a plug n play playoff caliber team.
In all kinds of weather…… Let’s stick together, gator fans. Yeah tonight was no fun but for the first time in years, I think I see brighter things on the horizon. Top notch recruiting and hopefully picking up some players in the portal. I will, however say that I do think that Billy is a good head ball coach, but needs an offensive coordinator.
So here’s the question I have looking into the future. We did have a great recruiting class last year and arguably got some much needed portal guys on both sides of the ball and here we are talking about the same thing again. Lot of young players getting pt and still offering that. So what happens if we have trouble with the remaining schedule and bowl game? Then it’s already noisy going into next year. The schedule next year is brutal and you are still a young team with either a senior at qb (no criticism of his game to be clear) or a freshman qb thrown into the fire that fits what Billy really wants to do with his offense. That’s if this class holds together. Having trouble seeing where the top of the hill will be. There’s gotta be a point at which a coach makes a statement about his coaching ability without a 5 star lineup.
On the flip side, I’d be weary of an OL transferring from a big time program. There’s probably a reason why that individual would be transferring and it’s probably an indicator that he’d not be as good as advertised.
Wasn’t it more like 2 feet, not 9 inches? Not saying you guys would, but I have to think that if Billy decided to plow it up the middle and it was stuffed, there would be some of the people here complaining that it was not imaginative.
What would you expect from squire Kirby? If we were a little better I have no doubt he'd headhunt someone like Wilson ala Kyle Pitts.
According to you we aren't 25. Rankings generally don't take schedule into account. Last I heard, we have a pretty tough one. Some say the toughest in the country. Doesn't exactly bode well for us being ranked where we "should" be.
Got mod that thinks I’m funny so imma check out for the evening. Maybe asking serious questions about the future so soon after a loss isn’t the place to go. Have a good one folks. Go Gators.
Love him or hate him, Dabo has done a ton for that program. Much more than our past 3 coaches. For those who think we are spoiled fans, go check their message boards….
Our offensive skill players (WR and RBs) were even with Ga. Their OL gave their QB time and our DBs were no where near their receivers when the ball was delivered. Their DBs broke up several passes because Mertz was pressured and their DBs were good. It is 90% talent and 10% coaching. If you flip Smart and Napier, the outcome would have been similar.
O-Line O-Line O-Line I've been saying this since 2019 when Dopey Dan had a 3rd and 1 and a 4th and 1 and threw passes on both plays. He couldn't run Perine for a first down. Meanwhile, the Georgia QB was completing crossing patterns on 3rd and 18 because he had all day to let the WR get open.
Start making sense. All things being equal, what would you expect the score to be today? I mean UGA gets the number 1 or 2 recruiting class years in a row and you think talent doesn't matter? WTF dude. I get tired of ragging on the team after a loss like this but you aren't coming close to making your points.
Talent only gets you so far. Kirby teaches soundness on defense and you can tell how they tackle or cover. Perfection. They are all in sync with each other. Seriously, if it was all talent, then TAMU should be in the CFP every year for the past 6 years.
Agree but FSU has been able to grab OL plus Verse, Fiske, Lovett. DL alone they’ve grabbed 2-3 impactful players. Verse is beyond. Their team made up of impactful transfers: Coleman Wilson Travis Fiske Verse Cypress Betheune Benson Lovett Byers
