    Ronnie is at it again.
Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Five to the Florida Polytechnic University Board of Trustees

Three of the five people he just appointed don't even live in Florida. Ilya Shapiro is a clown who got run out of Georgetown for making a racist comment on Twitter about KBJ (and trust me, it is far from the only stupid thing he has said). Of the two people who live in Florida, one is his former chief of staff. Looks like he plans to continue to appoint ideologues to university BOTs. We saw how well that's going at New College.

    Ron's just a racist, number 5,922.

Looks like he recognized one thing as being shut down by COVID, at least according to the excuse. He's supposed to name three new members to Florida Civil Rights Hall of Fame every year. Hasn't since 2019. Pure racist

In doing so, he is outlawing Christianity on campus. From today’s Times:

It cited House Bill 741, which DeSantis signed into law in 2019, setting requirements for public schools, colleges and universities to address discrimination against Jewish students and employees. It also pointed to House Bill 269, which DeSantis signed this year to establish stronger criminal penalties for committing certain antisemitic crimes.

In the wake of the Hamas attack and Israel’s response with the war in Gaza, Rodrigues and Diaz attempted to define actions that constituted antisemitism under Florida law.

Their letter said those actions include “calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews, often in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion.”

The bolded section literally describes Christian eschatology. It’s much more pronounced in certain Evangelical works, but it’s even euphemistically described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

1038 The resurrection of all the dead, "of both the just and the unjust" (Acts 24:15), will precede the Last Judgment. This will be "the hour when all who are in the tombs will hear [the Son of man's] voice and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment" (Jn 5:28–29) Then Christ will come "in his glory, and all the angels with him... . Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left... . And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life" (Mt 25:31, 32, 46).

1039 In the presence of Christ, who is Truth itself, the truth of each man's relationship with God will be laid bare (Cf. Jn 12:4). The Last Judgment will reveal even to its furthest consequences the good each person has done or failed to do during his earthly life.

1040 The Last Judgment will come when Christ returns in glory.

Literally Christians believe Jews cannot be saved (confess to be a bit inconsistently heretical in that regard). Jews are subject to the Final Judgement unless they convert. So the new law outlaws Christianity on campus, except that the DeSantis type Christians don’t really understand their so called faith or think about it too deeply - all about temporal power, which is a far more valid basis for failing the Last Judgement.

I’m continually amazed (not) by the party of “fiscal responsibility” wasting Florida taxpayer dollars like drunken, grifting sailors while REAL needs in this state go unmet. Gold standard, my ass.

Not sure about the stats, but this was an odd exchange. Maybe he couldn't hear her well.

Ron DeSantis flustered as he's confronted on Florida's gun deaths

"In Florida, our crime rate is at a 50-year low and our violent crime rate is down 30 percent, since I've been governor, so we're handling it strong," DeSantis said.

Welker then chimed in: "Governor, actually, statistically speaking, the CDC says that the firearm mortality rate is actually higher under your administration then it was under your predecessor's administration, but I do want to move onto the campaign—"

He responded: "Well, because you had COVID and all that stuff. Excess mortality, is that what you're saying? That went up everywhere in the country from 2020 on."

Welker then clarified and said, "The firearm mortality rate."

I saw that. He's just used to bullying his way to avoid being challenged. Didn't work here

I wonder if the rules have been finalized for the planned DeSantis/Newsom debate next month on Hannity. Seems like they were still working out some details.

No idea. Totally lost track. Peter Schorsch thinks DeSantis will never suspend his campaign until he gets past that debate and seeks what impact it has. FWIW
