Johnson was the QB coach all three years and the OC in 2020. Now he's the OC for Philadelphia and they are 6-1.
Sorry, we were talking about different things. I wasn't talking about his hiring- I was talking about his tenure. The hate was strong.
↑ "His only real success at UF was when he let Brian Johnson take over the offense with Trask" This is your response to the post above. "That’s not really true. In 2018, he was 10-3; in 2019, he was 11-2; and I’m 2020 (Covid), he took us the SEC Championship game." In fact Johnson was QB coach for the first two seasons and OC and QB coach for the latter season.
Make no mistake, the offense with Trask was Johnson’s not Mullen’s. Mullen never showed that attacking downfield passing game before or after the 19 and 20 seasons. He has admitted that him and Urban really didn’t know how to use Leak.
That's why I stated in a previous post that Johnson was the QB whisperer and not Mullen. In fact, Brian Johnson was the QB coach at Missisippi State when Dak Prescott was the QB.
My mistake. I thought you said Mullen was. Ok. Now that we’re clear. Mullen sucks. A couple of weeks ago saying that a team should use a star player that is not 100% as a decoy and not throw to him. I thought to myself “where the F was that line of thinking in 2020 against LSU”?
Ain't it different between the "runup" and the "afterglow"? Sometimes they are this... But hey, they have a damn nice personality!
Remember the NFL rumors started after his first year, UF was always supposed to be a quick stepping stone, why recruit?
Still have to give him credit for the most productive offense in UF history. The man was a great offensive guru. But he is very very lacking in the head coaching department. He lacks the leadership and the accountability to make it as a head coach. I have no respect for the guy.
Of one of my girlfriends a friend told me, "On a scale of one to ten, she's an eleven, and I don't know how you did it." But other than looks, she was sadly lacking. Snails have more personality. Had another one that Forrest Gump would've said, "I'm may not be a smart man, but she is not a smart girl." She was at least sweet and hot, but I couldn't have a conversation with her about anything. Those kind of relationships don't last.
He just happened to be at UF for that productive offense, and should be grateful that Brian Johnson knew what to do with it. If he were truly a great offensive guru, he wouldn't be sitting in a studio on Saturdays, while Brian Johnson is an OC on Sundays. Pretty clear who the pros think more highly of.
Who cares about the pros. He set the highest scoring season in UF history. And his years with Urban were phenomenal also. Don’t let hate blind you. I don’t like the guy either.
Mullen IS one of the best offensive play callers in the game. I have as much contempt for him as anyone when it comes to being a HC, particularly with our team. But to try and separate him from any of the offensive success while he was here …is being a little petty. He lost his marbles over the pandemic summer, for whatever reason… and wasn’t as invested or committed after that. It sucks …but it happens… I guess. Not everybody is cut out to coach at a high tier program like UF. But …Billy seems to get it.
