I guess the American Revolution was an insurrection then. Any attack on a tyrannical government is going to be, of course, illegal and done without any "right" to do so. Until the governing body that makes the laws is no longer in power, that is.

Its all academic since the gun people are basically tools of the state who enables them and benefits from their ideas of extralegal violence, not a bulwark against its abuses of power

yeah, but the tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants makes for a damn good quote :)

The organized militia was definitely a thing. However, there is plenty of evidence contemporary to the constitution that the founders recognized the unorganized militia too.

And the “Come And Take It” cannon makes for a damn fine flag.

Say what you want about gun guys, but (other than the weird obsession with Punisher crap a couple years back) they’ve got some damn fine sloganeering and symbology.

You're guessing right. Violent revolutions are by definition insurrections.

And yes, my point is that 2a doesn't provide a right to attack, so any violent attack upon govt, even upon a tyrannical govt would be contra any constitutionality. We have a system in which we hope can constrain various tyrannical forces, but not only of tyrannical govt, but tyrannical factions of people.

Those damn science teachers strike again: an air force base in New Jersey on lockdown due to an active shooter.

and FYI, George Mason's (co-author of the 2nd Amendment) Fairfax County Militia Plan:

So yeah, individuals DID "keep" arms, not just collectively in the town armory. They feared a standing army quartered amongst the people, and saw it as the biggest threat to the 2nd amendment, which is why the 3rd prohibited it.

Certainly didn't do anything close to that on the Jan 6 coup attempt. It seems like it's the folks with all the guns that we have to worry about not the reverse

So you are in favor of every man keeping a single shot flintlock rifle with shot and powder.

On the news live outside a house. They think he’s in there.

They may have Card held up at his house.

Crazy that he ended up there. You have to imagine / hope LEO made a trap out of his house.

Unlike most mass shootings, this one has had the shooter on the loose for 24 hours - really freaking people the fuck out.

I'd be shocked if he's in the home. I figure he's either lying in the woods with a hole in head somewhere, or he's on the run and won't be found for quite a while.

Unseasonably warm up here in the next couple days - that'll help identify a dead body.

He left a note. Contents unknown to us. There's also talk of him moving his boat, or telling people he was taking it - possibly as a diversionary tactic. Remember - he ditched his original car at a boat launch.

Lot's of bread crumbs that this was well planned and he's on the run - making a return home less likely.

Do they have heat detection technology or something to know how many people may or may not be in this house?

But the court is stacked with originalists with the exception of this issue. The 2nd was for a force that would be analagous to the national guard that could take ttheir weapons home. The never ending expansion by the right is nowhere in line with the intent.

The Second Amendment doesn't say militias. It uses the word "Militia" and capitalizes it, just like it does when referencing the militia of the states in the other constitutional clauses.
