Do you think that is because he could hide his warts better at Miss. St.? At UF pretty much everyone in the country could see what he was like.

And, I truly think he stopped wanting to the the coach of the Gators. I think he wanted to be a head coach in the NFL, and when he didn’t land a job, he couldn’t mentally get himself back to being the head coach here.

I never was enthused about the Mullen hire. Tebow never gave Mullen props it was always about Urban for him. I for one love the Gators! My swaddling clothes were Orange and Blue! I have been through many lean years loving the Gators. The Gators hired Ray Graves as head coach and he started to turn things around but we never won a conference championship but came close but Georgia beat us in Spurriers senior season to knock us out of the Championship race. That is why SOS hates Georgia. I have a laundry list of reasons that go way back before Spurrier played. It would please me to no end to beat them Saturday and cripple their chance at a three peat for a National Championship! I am long in the tooth and I don’t know if I will be with you all to see Billy Napier win a National Championship but an SEC Championship sure would help me rest in peace! Billy is building something special! Go Gators beat Georgia!

You are right- Duke was 8-4 in 89. But the point remains- they didn't sniff an NC or even a top bowl.
Mullen actually did (slightly) better at State.

If you don't remember the hate for Spurrier you were not born or you were under a rock.
Spurrier was called out many times by national media- Sports Illustrated, the networks, rival fans, etc.
Again, pre-internet so there was not as much of a record.

I was in Gainesville starting with Ray Graves, thru Charley Pell, Galen Hall, Gary Darnell to Spurrier until Muschamp. Gator fans, which are all that matter, were ecstatic with the hire of Spurrier.

I admit it, I was for Dan over Chip or Frosty.

I don't get the Mullen bashing. If nothing else, he left the program better than he found it. College football was turning into College Football, Inc. and Dan and the administration were on the wrong side of that transition. Napier hopefully will lead to an extended period of success.

No, Dan didn't. In fact, he left it worse than any coach since Doug Dickey. If it were better we'd have more than 4 seniors in the depth chart with only one of them starting, and he was brought in by Napier.

Disagree only on urban. He never built anything. His three college programs had championship talent when he took over. UF and OSU had NFL rosters when he got there. We all saw how quickly it crashed in Jax

He took the talent at both programs and turned it into championships. Bowling Green had six straight losing seasons before Urban got there. Utah was 33-24 over the five seasons preceding Urban. And comparing college to pro is disingenuous. Spurrier didn't do so well in DC, and he inherited the talent that won our first SEC Championship.

Between this article and the two published earlier this fall on IAKOW, I think we are really getting a strong sense of just what a mess CBN inherited.

Billy Napier is simply a class act and has us absolutely on the right path. I am very proud to bleed Orange and Blue and look forward to the many and regular Championships to come (and sooner than later).

I was over the moon when the hire was announced...with very good reason.

Third actually, but he did win 7 in 12 seasons, and took second twice. Urban won 2 in 6. Spurrier never came close to .500 season

He won six officially. First that we were officially recognized as SEC Champions in 1991.

His only real success at UF was when he let Brian Johnson take over the offense with Trask

    That’s not really true.

    In 2018, he was 10-3;
in 2019, he was 11-2; and
I’m 2020 (Covid), he took us the SEC Championship game.
