Every Republican in the House voted to elect Mike Johnson to the Speakership. Just a guess but I suspect that a significant number of voters who live in districts that Joe Biden won in 2020 and are represented by Republicans will remember for whom those representatives voted.

Keep in mind that going into the 2022 House elections there were predictions that the 2022 election would be a wave election like 1994 in which the Republicans picked up 54 seats or 2010 in which the Republicans picked up 63 seats. While the Republican did manage to flip the House in 2022 they only picked up 9 seats and that was with a Democratic president whose approval rating was underwater by double-digits and inflation at its highest level in 40 years.

The most widely revered figure in world history, as he is revered by Christians, Muslims and Jews alike.

Lol, there is no way the republicans win more than one of those. Lol. The house is not in play. The senate my guess is close and the president is doubtful.

Haha. As though the actions of Republicans will in any way affect the actions of Democrats. :D

Once you've already branded the other side as Nazis who are threats to Democracy, and you react as such, there's not much you have left to threaten the other side.

Don't rain on their fantasy parade: a maga supermajority in both houses of congress and the WH. They can then go about banning abortion nationwide, banning gay marriage, banning all non binary sexual orientations, arranging for even more lax gun laws, and asserting their god given authority in many other ways as they bark about limited government and liberty. Toss in some more tax cuts for the super rich while they are at it. Get rid of social security and medicare. The list goes on.

Well, one day it will be the face of Trump on the wall, not the face of Moses.

Moses will be the second most widely revered figure in world history.

    Just ask Trump.

Would you have preferred that I used the word "prediction" instead of "guess" By the way how accurate were the predictions of the conservative prognosticators who had predicted that the 2022 House midterm election was going to a wave election similar to that of 1994 or 2010. With the exception of the 2021 off off year elections in Virginia and New Jersey, Democrats have outperformed almost every poll beginning with 2018 and expect 2024 to be similar while the caveat that I was wrong regarding the 2016 presidential election when Trump won just enough electoral votes by flipping four states by extremely narrow (around one percent or less) margins. By way if Democrat turnout was the same in 2016 as it was 2012 the orange one would have returned to reality television in 2017.

While not a flattering description, I believe the characterization here to be fundamentally true. It is the biggest obstacle for me to vote for someone like a Nikki Haley. She personally does not hold some of these views, and others not to the same degree, but when a clear majority other hold these views, or are Ok to coexist with these views - as a evidenced by the uninanimous confirmation vote among R’s, it is hard for me to trust anybody on team Republican because ultimately the Nikki Haley’s of the world will still be beholden to these lunatics to a large degree.

It will be interesting this Mike Johnson guy was a radio talk show host so I am sure there is plenty of audio out there expressing some radical views. I wonder if any of that will be used against him nationally in 2024 elections.

They may not impact the actions of Democrats, but they sure as heck will impact the actions of independents.

If you're talking about Independents in Congress, there aren't many.

If you're talking about Independent voters as they pertain to Johnson, the role of Speaker is not so important that you have to completely agree with him on policy. You just have to prefer his committee assignments and delegations to that of the Democrats.

I guess it's consequential in that he's the third in line to the Presidency now, but what makes Republicans look the worst of having McCarthy as Speaker, having Johnson as Speaker, and having no Speaker at all... it's having no Speaker at all.

No matter how much Democrats want you to believe this is a big deal, it's not.

Johnson is just another Christofascist Jesus freak hiding behind his religion, and using it as an excuse to inflict harm and suffering on our most vulnerable citizens.

On the surface the statement seems over the top, but the result is pretty accurate. If it were up to Johnson he would restrict many of our rights, including abortion, gay marriage and even homosexuality itself, not to mention the ability of states to conduct and certify their own elections without the federal government overturning it.
