24 year old teacher ... She sent nude pics to a teenage boy and offered sex ... and is now facing multiple charges.

I'm really just posting this because I have time understanding the double standard that exists in my own head. I mean, I know it's a crime, and should be, but it just doesn't feel as bad to me when it's a male victim and super hot teacher. I can't really explain it.

What if the teen were male and the teacher were also male? What if a female teacher were doing this with a teen who is also female? Is it more about the sex of the adult involved, the sex of the victim, or both? And how relevant is our own subjective view regarding the level of attractiveness of the adult?

Because you were a teenage boy at one point.

About a decade ago, my best friend from HS told me that a hot for teacher of ours tried to have sex with him when we were in 8th grade. My reaction: jealousy. :D

None of that should matter, I know it's the same crime either way ... I think it's because in my head, when I was 16, my gut tells me I would have banged her and not felt like a victim ...

To add to my questions above, on one hand, men are more likely than women to be sexual predators - not to mention violent otherwise. And practically, a 16 year old boy isn't going to be overpowered by the vast majority of women that may express an interest in him. So I get those differences. Having said that, I also think the double standard about who can be a "real" victim relies at least in part upon the following stereotypes: that males are entirely unemotional when it comes to sex and females are the opposite; that girls/young women don't have their own physiological drive or interest in sex. Those stereotypes are wrong or at the least very exaggerated.

Total double standard. That said, what teenage boy has not fantasized about banging a hot teacher?

The reason it's bad is because he's still a daddy if she gets knocked up and wants to keep the baby regardless of who the state is blaming for the act.

This is a little different but still a crime. She wasn't his teacher. He willingly took part in an anonymous conversation with her where she had no idea how old he was. I gotta wonder how those conversations went and how they led to an invitation to swap nude photos and have sex.

Not that it matters, but I was sexually active at that age and would have taken the bait without suffering emotionally. If anything, I would have been better prepared for sexual relationships in college.

I forget who it was who once posted on GC:

The eight year age difference in the story isn't as extreme as some cases for sure. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I just don't recall teachers as young as 24 in my middle school or high school years, though they might not have been quite as old as I perceived them to be at the time either. I am very confident that I would remember if I had anything close to a crush on one of my teachers (or even a teacher I saw around school), and I'm coming up with nothing.

Def a double standard. But as I said to war, male lawmakers were all teen boys at some point. And the truth is for many a teen boy, it really wouldn't feel like a victimization, even if by law it is. But by law is also more @ statutory, not necessarily inherently wrong, say as we might think of murder being inherently wrong.

I have some friends who worked in the neglect system and they said that being sexualized at an early age in that situation like this really will mess the kid up. We all fantasized about it, but it really can mess the kid up. I was joking about it similarly when I was told that

That's certainly true. But I also think perhaps something else is going on, as well: that men may prefer to view girls/women as being sexually pure and innocent. That ties into the sexual double standards which are applied to promiscuity and body counts (sometimes out of sexual insecurity). Some men are aware of their own sexual histories but don't want to think of their wives, mothers, or daughters as sexual beings. Some of these stereotypes and expectations can make men feel more protective of girls and women, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. But the stereotypes and expectations are also often hypocritically weaponized against girls and women in other contexts.

One of my first thought when reading this is that she was probably a victim as a kid, and that messed her up ... wouldn't surprise me if that comes out as a defense or to get a better plea deal.
