    nice work!

The average number of abortions performed each month in the US rose in the year after the supreme court overturned Roe v Wade and allowed more than a dozen states to ban the procedure, according to data released on Tuesday from a research group backed by the Society of Family Planning.

This stunning finding masks a deep divide in abortion access in the US. The number of abortions performed in states with near-total or six-week abortion bans plummeted, with providers in those states performing 114,590 fewer abortions than they would have if Roe had not been overturned, according to data collected by the research group, WeCount.

At the same time, abortions rose dramatically in the states that still permit the procedure. In total, those states performed 116,790 more abortions than expected.

US abortion rates rise post-Roe amid deep divide in state-by-state access

Easy to figure out. When women had more time to think about having an abortion many decided not to.
When women were forced to decide immediately due to restrictions in their state, they chose abortion.

Because if you look at the numbers of when abortions actually occur vs the rhetoric. Its a pill.

Wait, I thought the argument was that people wanted "anchor babies." Seems like you are now making the opposite argument to deflect from how this obviously didn't work out how you thought it would.

Interesting that Florida had the second largest increase of all but one other state.

I presume you mean from Latin America. Please explain basis for your belief this is due to Latino immigrants.

Here, let me take this for TJ. I've read enough of his posts to have a strong feel for how he would handle your question.

Not sure why I'm even responding to such a post, but there was actually an inverse relationship between number of undocumented immigrants in the US and less abortions in the US for years. Here's number of undocumented between 1990 and 2016. Numbers continue to rise until the recession around 2007.

Here's US abortion rates from 1973, when Roe was legalized, through 2017. Notice, all throughout the 1990s, a drop in abortions, even though there is a rise in undocumented immigrants.

"I like turtles" is probably the most intelligent response to @tjgator's post.

Isn't that the opposite of what the stats say, or have I just had a long day of work?

Abortions went down with major restrictions (less time) and went up with fewer restrictions (more time)

Good news indeed the nutty turbo Christian’s have been thwarted again. Pubs just can’t learn their lesson though. They just elected a nutty turbo Christian speaker who advocates criminalizing gay sex. Imagine gay marriage and abortion are also on the list. BTW he says he was “ordained by god” to the speaker role. LOL

You realize these immigrants massively higher birth rates vs white Americans are keeping us from having a birth rate at or above the replacement rate?
    Kidding! of course you don’t.

Those in states that had restrictions or bans went to less restricted states for an abortion and were rushed into having it before it became apparent to others they were pregnant.

If given more time in the first trimester in their home state, they may have chosen not to abort.

That's how I read the stats

that seems a reasonable take. many "anti-abortion" folks are NOT in favor of measures that prevent & hence, reduce abortions. I suspect that too was part of the cause. For many "anti-abortion" folks it is anti sexual freedom.* There is a great ep. of Cocaine & Rhinestones about Loretta Lynn's song, the pill. it got banned seemingly b/c it was about birth control; however, the podcast makes a very convincing argument that it was banned b/c it was about WOMEN's sexual freedom.

Interesting. Hadn't thought of it that way but certainly a possibility as well.

Does the "day after" abortion pill count as an abortion for stats? I've always thought of it as more of a precaution than an abortion, since there is really no way of knowing if a pregnancy would have really occurred.
