democrats could have stepped up and publicly offered a power sharing deal in exchange for their support and they didn't. they are not innocent here. both parties, being ruled by the magats at the far ends of each

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the USA is a virulent insurrectionist who does not believe in democracy, elections, and the right to privacy (he's for outlawing contraception and is in favor of a nationwide abortion ban), who wants to use the power of government to force all Americans to live according to the precepts of fundamentalist Christianity.

In other words, his beliefs are in conformance with those of about 80% of Congressional Republicans and about 60% of the membership of the entire Republican Party. Yes...overall, not every member, but overall, the Republican Party has turned into a fascist leaning party of the Confederacy that accepts and excuses white nationalists and neo-Nazis, supports Russia's and Putin's invasions of our allies, wants NATO obliterated, and considers political violence to be an acceptable method of deciding political differences.

why are they ecstatic? I actually would like some insight. Or is this just repeating the maga tagline?

I have to wonder how many Democrats now regret not supporting Tom Emmer when he was the Speaker designate. Although Emmer is rather far to the right he's not a member of MAGA crazy caucus.

Enjoy his term for the next 14 months although that may be optimistic since members of your party have a tendency to eat their own. Unless he changes the rule it still only takes a single member to move to vacate the chair and even someone as far to the right as Johnson could end up alienating another member of his own party. Come January 2, 2025 a number of Republicans from swing districts who supported him could end losing their House seats taking down Mike Johnson's speakership in the process.

I don’t think they got the chance. He stepped down after internal votes.

If the redistricting maps are done by then, that and Roe was enough. Didn't need a maga victory for such an important position

Absolutely disagree. You keep trying to pin this debacle on the Democrats as much as the Republicans.

Democrats saved McCarthy’s ass once and he knifed them on the Sunday morning shows. They also tried to negotiate some power sharing concessions and that was a no go. Republicans will renege on any deal you make with them, they are fundamentally dishonest.

How many times does Lucy pull the football away before you wise up?

Republicans own this shit show, period.

Imo too early to tell. Repubs are now all of a sudden trying to distance themselves from abortion issue. But it could get messy for them when gov stops working for an extended period.

The Dems look to pick up a significant number of seats, 10-13, due to the courts ordering redistricting/redrawing of maps in several states to reverse the Republicans' blatant and illegal gerrymandering.

Excellent state by state analysis by election law expert attorney Marc Elias as to where those new seats will be created.

Yours already did if you've been watching the voting. Dems have been 100% solid behind Jeffries on EVERY vote. Republicans can only dream of that level of solidarity.
