I guess I could be wrong, but I really don't recall wearing a Halloween costume in school. I recall dressing up before the trick-or-treating. Can't say I care much either way, but I can certainly imagine, particularly these days, various complaints and arguments that might come up with respect to dress code issues, religious objections, political costumes, etc.

This year the costume should be an orange prison jumpsuit

    DOGS CANCELLED

Outrageous you can’t bring dogs to school either! I mean there is nothing more American than dogs! Educators hate dogs! Why are they taking away our right to own dogs?

Should kids be allowed to own dogs?

    Yes O
    No O

Was a little curious and found this part interesting.

    Halloween - Wikipedia

    Spread to North America

Lesley Bannatyne and Cindy Ott write that Anglican colonists in the southern United States and Catholic colonists in Maryland "recognized All Hallow's Eve in their church calendars",[139][140] although the Puritans of New England strongly opposed the holiday, along with other traditional celebrations of the established Church, including Christmas.[141] Almanacs of the late 18th and early 19th century give no indication that Halloween was widely celebrated in North America.[22]

It was not until after mass Irish and Scottish immigration in the 19th century that Halloween became a major holiday in America.[22] Most American Halloween traditions were inherited from the Irish and Scots,[23][142] though "In Cajun areas, a nocturnal Mass was said in cemeteries on Halloween night. Candles that had been blessed were placed on graves, and families sometimes spent the entire night at the graveside".[143] Originally confined to these immigrant communities, it was gradually assimilated into mainstream society and was celebrated coast to coast by people of all social, racial, and religious backgrounds by the early 20th century.[144] Then, through American influence, these Halloween traditions spread to many other countries by the late 20th and early 21st century, including to mainland Europe and some parts of the Far East.[24][25][145]

Its kind of the same for Christmas, it didn't catch on in the modern sense until around that time too. The Puritans didnt believe in fun.

My daughter tells me that our kids wore their costumes to school. (Yes, I had to ask.) Checked with my sister - her kids in Pennsylvania had no Halloween in school, no costumes, no parties. But a Halloween themed dance for the high school at night. Same with her grandkids in Savannah. Nothing during school, fall festival afterward.

In other words, it's hardly uncommon for schools to have nothing for Halloween, including costumes.
But I agree with others here, DEI seems like an odd reason.

So is grooming... story time with a tranny, but that never stopped the school boards...

Let's get real here when. When I was young in elementary school Halloween on a school day was a blast because we saw some scary (short) movies and ate popcorn and hotdogs... I found that "distraction" to be fun for kids to get to know other kids better.

I would have equal outrage over that as well. But I have never sent any of my children to private Christian schools. I don’t believe Halloween has any pagan or satanic influences for the majority of children who celebrate it. Sure, there may be some adults that look at it that way, but for children, it’s just a day to put on a costume and get candy. I think you have to look at it from the children’s perspective, not by the kooks perspective,

we had costumes at my elementary school, but I grew up on a military base, so maybe that is different than public schools.

Next door neighbors are very religious and conservative. Still convinced the ejection was stolen, etc.
they’ve never done Halloween because of the satanic part. Kids never did it. Porch light off with steps closed with rope in Halloween night.

Try reading the link. It isn’t hard. The very 1st sentence:

A New Jersey school district canceled official school-wide Halloween celebrations, citing its diversity, equity and inclusion values and the purported potential for the festival to be offensive to people from various cultural and religious backgrounds.

Don't disagree. The Christian school I attended for elementary schooled banned it across all campuses under the pretense of "satanic influence" (in quotes because it was their spurious claim), but I've little doubt it was mainly for the high school and had more to do with "we don't want high school girls breaking the dress code against provocative clothing."

I'd have more of an issue with it at elementary schools or even middle schools. I can understand if high school admins would prefer to avoid it. Still think it's a stupid idea, but I'm not sitting in their chair having to deal with any consequences from a bunch of hormone-filled maniacs perceiving an opportunity to get wild.

The only Halloween costume I recall from my schooling was actually in Pre-K, which is weird because I don't remember much from that age. But I had a cool ET costume, complete with a mask which one of the girls found frightening. I was asked to take the mask off and think I did so before covertly putting it back on. Needless to say, the girl pitched a fit and got me in trouble. I vaguely recall seething over the ridiculousness of it all. How unAmerican does one have to be to dislike ET!!?

Only time my kids dressed in costumes for Halloween was at their Jewish pre-school.

We dressed for Halloween at the Episcopal school I attended K-6. Never dressed as Satan but I did dress as a Hell's Angel in the 6th grade. The headmaster's wife thought it was hilarious.
