Could be. After I posted that I seemed to remember hearing it pronounced both ways growing up. My lineage is Citrus and Pasco Counties.

 

About the only downside compared to Sh. . . er, South Florida. And south Georgia and the rest of Florida have beaches too. Better ones that aren't slathered with cheese and overdevelopment. . . YET.
