every young man’s career goal should be being a fired head football coach with a large buyout. It’s the ultimate achievement.

Unless major college football goes 100% free agency, there is NO WAY you can pay those guys and keep a team together. Do you and others not remember Rashada? There IS no "guarantee". Heck "Mr. Perfect", Manning, isn't starting in Texas. Why do you all believe in simple answers?

When I say 100% free agency, it means that every year players get signed to one-year contracts and the teams have no residual ownership of any player. They have to market themselves each year. What would happen is that Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers would CLEAN UP whereas Justin Fields and Marcus Mariota would be playing for scraps. It is a truly fair system. AND the teams with the largest budgets will stay at the top. UTx and aTm seem to be there today.

And no players union would ever consider it.

am not a fan of over paying for average coaches, but we have done it as well. Some of these guys just get recycled over and over again. I would always hire the guy who was successful at a smaller school and had a plan and worked his plan. It may be rough sledding for a couple of years, but given time those guys are hungry enough to keep working the plan that made them successful at the smaller schools. Of course the portal and NIL has changed a lot of that. Dabo not using the portal is foolish in today's world of college football. I look at some of the other SEC schools and the reason they are constantly at the bottom is they continue to recycle failed coaches or very average coaches.

Only 25 college athletic departments make a profit. The only reason they can pay such high salaries is the fact they don't have to pay star WRs. They can't afford that, tbh. Only rich old guys living vicariously through 18 year old kids they aren't related to can.

This is why schools are selling out for tv contracts, the fan base is shrinking and in a couple generations there won't be rich old guys who want to pay a high school kid $1,000,000 so a college football team might get a win or two more.

It’s hard to stay hungry as a coach too when money is never an issue again. I’m sure some do it because they love to coach and those are the successful longterm ones. I’d take my first buyout and you never here of me again.

Once you factor in booster money, it’s a great deal for the schools. The few that are generating all that money will soon grow weary of giving the vandy,s of the world 50 mil + a year for nothing. Some schools have already tried to get a bigger perce of tge payout and it only seems right. If they don’t help generate the money pool, why do they expect equal payout?

I’d rather pay Jaden Rashada $3 million per year and have him guide my team to a couple of bowl games than pay that to Dan Enos and watch him be the trash coach he is.

But we pay for entertainment. The actors are striking now for a bigger piece of the pie the executives at the entertainment companies are making half a billion a year. Who do you root for?

That’s because our society has its priorities completely screwed up. I don’t much like any of them. Fortunately I can still buy a great novel for less than $20, and get far more enjoyment out of that than any dumbass TV show

Yeah the apps like Libby and Hoopla are nice but the authors and books I go after seem to be in high demand and I don’t do well on wait lists. Downloading from Kindle can get me what I want for under $20

When it comes to books and music, I make sure that I buy physical media because I want to support the artists and authors. I don’t have the same warm fuzzy feelings by any means when it comes to Hollywood.

The weird thing is I really can’t read books anymore. I do better with audiobooks. lol

Wondering how long we can go this way before the whole thread gets locked or moved.

Until the discussion goes completely sideways or into something political. Threads sometimes wander around for awhile and then get back toward the original topic.

I was slow getting on the Kindle bandwagon because I love paperbacks. But Kindle gives you the ability to look up words, and even more useful to me is the ability to search back in the book for names — very helpful in a Clancy or Follett novel where dozens of characters are introduced and deeper in the book you forget who is who. All those Russian names in Clancy books kinda look and sound the same :D
