If it includes getting Qatar to expel the Hamas leadership living there, perhaps Israel would like to take custody of them?

For some, restraint in Gaza and elsewhere is primarily a function of wanting to avoid innocent casualties, because that is the right thing to do morally. For others, it is a reason of practicality, a slaughter of Palestinians, intentional or not, could lead to a wide and broad escalation that is not in Israel’s or the US interests.

So it seems the options are:

1 Exercise restraint and try to pursue Hamas surgically, taking your time, and avoiding collateral damage as much as possible, and try to minimize the chance of major escalation.

    2. Decide that #1 is doomed to fail, and support Israel fully in invading Gaza at whatever human cost, and accept that it may very well lead to significant escalation in the region and probably will torpedo whatever progress made in the region, like the Abrams accords.

I tend to think it is worth at least trying #1.

Look at that handsome dignified face. Almost Obi Wan in its gravitas. Now tell me that head would not look good sitting atop a spike on a wall of the Old City.

Prudent planning, they need to plan for this. It would almost be criminal not to do planning for this event.

The US is engaged in a major build up in the Middle East right now. Including chartering private aircraft. I suspect it is a reason for the delays in Israel’s response. Israel will not go until we are in place. OSINT shows U.S. deploying more arms and troops to Israel, Cyprus and Jordan

That makes sense, good cooperation between US and Israel.

US interests have come under attack already. We need to protect the troops and interests we have throughout the region. The common enemy here is Iran. Israel will likely have to take action in Syria where the US has interests too. And I am not convinced that those cruise missiles and drones that we shut down were headed to Israel. We we were told that they were headed north. Everyone assumes Israel. But The US positions north too. And I don’t believe Houthis launched those missiles. My guess is that it was IRG operating in Yemen. I do know that the US and Israel have conducted joint exercises. I was there once when exercises were happening.

There’s going to be a broader war in the Middle East. Proportionally, this attack by Hamas (Iran) was larger than 9/11 was for America. We invaded Iraq. We invaded Afghanistan. We can expect Israel will do at least as much as Bush did in response to 9/11. With that being said, we know Palestinians, Arabs and the Iranians will not sit by idly while Israel goes to town on Gaza. So, there’s going to be a large war. Anyone who thinks these movements are for “deterrence” don’t understand the Muslim world’s hatred for Zionists. I’ll leave it there, but I think you know where I am going with this. It’s inevitable there will be a large-scale conflict across the Middle East.

It’s really not the worst idea. I’m all for the solution that gets these two groups of people separated from each other that results in the least loss of life. But it’s a non starter because God.
