Also yesterday... Dementia Donald Trump makes a genius Discovery.. get this... U.S. is spelled like the word "us". Even better than when he invented "priming the pump".

Trump claims he is ‘genius’ for realising ‘us’ is spelled the same as ‘US’

Speaking about his dealings with French president Emmanuel Macron, he said: “Macron, nice guy, he’s for France – I’m for us.

“You know, you spell us right? You spell us U-S. I just picked that up. Has anyone ever thought of that? A couple of days [ago) I’m reading and it said us. And I said, you know, if you think about it, us equals U-S.”

You have to understand that Trump is not used to reading anything (other than teleprompters), that's why he "just picked that up." He says that he was reading a couple of days ago, like reading itself was something he hadn't thought of before or had just forgotten about. "I learned about it way back in grade school, along with the multiplying tablets."

I don't think they're insane. Rather too clever by half, and somehow radically anti-American, due to their pathetic desire to earn favor from the rest of the world. Especially the Euros (...who depend almost entirely on us for their security which thereby enables them to experiment with novel social theories).

Is Joe Biden today the same one who beat Trump four years ago? I'm the same age as Biden, and I can tell I'm pretty sure I'm not the same person I was four years ago. For example, I could walk into a room four years ago and remember what I went there for.

You could say the same thing for the Republicans. The reason Biden won in 2020 was because he wasn't Trump. Trump is probably the worst candidate the GOP can run to try and beat Biden. He's already lost to Biden once

Do you have an entire branch of government dedicated to carrying out your ideas that are all decades younger than you?

Here is what General Milley thinks about Biden's mental acuity:

"How people interpret that is up to them, but I engage with him frequently and alert, sound, does his homework, reads the papers, reads all the read-ahead material. And he's very, very engaging in issues of very serious matters of war and peace and life and death," Milley said. "So if the American people are worried about an individual who is, you know, someone who's making decisions of war and peace and has access to, you know, makes the decisions of nuclear weapons and that sort of thing, I think they can rest easy."

Yeah, it's way better to care what North Korea and Russia think of us than Europe.

All I know is that Trump, described above as "probably the worst candidate the GOP can run to try and beat Biden," is running about even with Biden in the latest polls on the 2024 election. A mentally ill criminal and traitor running even with Biden. If that doesn't make you nervous as hell, good for you.

    How about fellow Americans?

Can't we focus on what our fellow Americans think and need, before tripping over ourselves to appease or please folks from anywhere else?

Isn't that kind of the point of having and being a 'Nation'?

Interesting. Bill Maher, for example, has explained his concern by saying he thinks Biden can do the job but can't get the job again (because perception is reality). I wonder what percentage of people who may be giving Biden low marks and low ratings to pollsters are not actually opposed to how he's performed or continues to perform but rather have understandable anxiety given the polling data. Presumably, that group would still vote for Biden in the general against Trump even if they're pessimistic about Biden's chances right now.

That's exactly my point. Any other GOP candidate would have a sizable lead against Biden in the polls, yet we have Trump

So let's just hope, and if we're religious pray to God, that Biden squeezes by this time (that is, magically steals another election).

You're probably right. That's certainly the conventional wisdom, which seems to be reflected in the polls.

I'm not entirely convinced the analysis is that easy though. Trump does have charisma, name recognition, lots of ardent supporters, and a narrative of fighting against the deep state which appeals to some people. He also reportedly appeals to blue collar workers and "populists" in a way that other Republicans may not be able to pull off. Not to mention whether the most loyal Trump supporters would stay home, write him in, etc., in the event Trump were to lose the primary. I am not sure if Tim Scott, Haley, or DeSantis would necessarily get more votes in a general than Trump would get. Of course, the other side of that coin is that Trump being on the ballot will likely energize and motivate Democrats and independents (and some Republicans) who view Trump as uniquely bad and unfit - to make sure he doesn't win.

The fact that we even have to discuss this exemplifies the sorry state that this country is in. As I've said before, if Trump gets elected, then this country deserves it. What else can one say?

    Hard to disagree with you.

The only solace I could really take or offer if Trump were to get elected again would be the following: he would enter office as a lame duck; the GOP is currently in disarray (partly over Trump) and doesn't seem able or interested in actually governing; the efforts to shut down the government over the debt would probably cease; barring something really unexpected, none of the left-leaning SCOTUS seats would likely open up during his second term (we'll also have to see who controls the Senate); Trump would be more interested in promoting himself than making the sorts of strategic, long-term structural changes that someone like DeSantis or Ramaswamy might attempt; any crazy new executive measures he would order would probably be litigated immediately; and finally, I don't think even Trump would try to stay in office beyond a second term.
